I mean, it looks cool. But it almost chips from looking at it. Maybe that's what they were going for.

I accidentally bumped it on a power drill that was sitting on the floor when setting it up (not a very hard bump- my AVRI Jazzmaster has easily withstood harder collisions with no noticeable finish damage). It now has about 3 1" long cracks on the bottom/side. After playing it lightly for about 1 year, it has a handful of chips, and also some wear through the forearm contour (can see the wood).

I'm just being careful. I am stupidly careful with my gear and I'm used to Musicman's very deep poly finish, so minor chips from just using it would really wind me up....mywhitenoise wrote:You're freaking out over something that has yet to be an issue.Musicman20 wrote:That is good to know.egosheep wrote:FWIW I had a KO for 6 months and it never got a scratch on it. Seemed like quite a hardy finish.
The store have said I can can have a full refund/cancellation no problem....I know its a limited colour but if the sherwood green chips and comes off really easy I'd be gutted. I don't mind normal nitro wear, but over a long period (eg years not months).
Does anyone else have a recent model?
I thought this might be the case. It will look awesome but I like my expensive gear to look new until its had honest wear of a a few years at least.Ben Logan wrote:I asked Fender about the Sherwood Green Marrguars' finish durability. Here's what they wrote back:
Hello Ben,
The Sherwood Green Jaguar has the same finish as the other color options. It is a Nitrocellulose finish. Which is a thinner finish. So it does chip, crack and wear more that a guitar with a poly finish. It would be under warranty if it is a manufacturing defect. The warranty would not cover wear and tear.

How much did you pay for it? Did you order online, or in store? I have a K0 finish, but would sell it and buy a Sherwood if the price were reasonable.Musicman20 wrote:I thought this might be the case. Even though it is quite delicate/thin, I made it sound worse than it is, probably. I'm not over-protective of my guitars, but I surely don't beat them up either. My chips are all pretty small and don't get picked up by my iPad camera that well. If the finish is a big deal to you, I would ask yourself this question:Musicman20 wrote:indiandysummer wrote:I will also jump in and say I have an Oly white JM jag body. It chips very easily. Wow...I mean it probably looks cool but that is SOME wear!
Does anyone have any pics of this?
This really puts me off getting the one I have pre-ordered. I've already got one relicing Marr, don't need another one.Greta wrote:I was suprised at the thinness of the finish. I will be betting on it chipping quite easily.
Wow..that finish looks SUPER thin...its a lovely colour and vintage fans will no doubt not agree with me about thin finishes, but if went ahead on the Sherwood and it ended up like that after one gig I'd be distraught..fews years, no problem.Kylef wrote:This really puts me off getting the one I have pre-ordered. When I heard horror stories about the Marrs paint chipping, it didn't phase me as I baby my guitars so never thought it would happen to mine. I took it out for one gig, it was by my side all night yet I took it out the case the next morning to polish it and these chips were out the back. I was absolutely distraught about it at first, but now there's a couple of tiny ones on the front. I got over it by thinking once it gets really bad I'll get resprayed in a custom colour. Now I'm wondering whether to make that colour sherwood, this way I'll have a sherwood Marr but in a more durable finish (I have used a finisher a few times I kmow and he's outstanding)
Exactly, so you can see my hesitance to jump right in and purchase a sherwood marr without seeing one first. As I said, I baby my guitars and this happened. All my other guitars are in excellent nick after countless gigs, this happened after one. It's weird too as I have no idea how it happened....I have my guitar sitting quite low too, a belt buckle if going to do any damage would be closer to the top cutaway, nowhere near the bottom.Musicman20 wrote:Kylef wrote:Wow..that finish looks SUPER thin...its a lovely colour and vintage fans will no doubt not agree with me about thin finishes, but if went ahead on the Sherwood and it ended up like that after one gig I'd be distraught..fews years, no problem.Greta wrote:I was suprised at the thinness of the finish.
