Black anodized aluminum pickguards anyone?

Post by tade » Sun May 10, 2015 11:22 am

So I have this Jazzmaster project going on and I'd love to use a black anodized aluminum pickguard, but don't really know where to find one. I've read about tone guard and their reputation around here makes me want to look somewhere else. Also anotone are out of them waiting for their new cnc machine to arrive, and who knows how long it could take.
Is there any other place to look for them? I'm talking about proper aluminum ones, not the plastic ones which are advertised as anodized.

That's about what the options are.

Eden as well as WD have a simulated brushed black aluminum. I have one from WD and it's OK but it's NOT aluminum and you can tell the difference.

i was hesitant about tone guard as well, likely based on the same threads you've read. i went ahead and placed an order, it arrived on time, no issues whatsoever. and the product itself is great.

I bought the WD one and I was very disappointed. It looks like a one ply black plastic pickguard, and IF the light hits it at the just the right angle... it kind of looks like the tried to make it look aluminum.

Same here. I was hesitant, but am happy with the pickguard & my experience once I finally broke down & ordered from them.

Thanks for the answers guys, I'll guess that I'll have to bite the bullet and go for one of those toneguard pickguards, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm about to do a run of anodized guards for a few personal projects, and am going to offer Jag & JM to the forum.
AVRI, MIJ & nine-hole JM (as soon as I track down an accurate drawing), laser cut from 2mm aluminium.
WIll be doing black & gold anodize.
Custom may be an option if you can provide a trace or pdf.
Will post a thread with pics soon, am just waiting to approve a sample of the brush finish from the polishers.

I'm in Australia but our dollar is rubbish plus being flat these will ship cheap.

Stay tuned!

Whoa, cool! I have an original AVRI Jaguar guard I can send to you if you if you need it for a template? I'm keen for gold anodized on my OTM Jaguar but remember someone (I think it was Larry Mal?) had size/fit issues with one of the currently available (and quite pricey) options.

I have a pdf of the Jag AVRI but I'd love to check it against the real deal.
A jag guard should fit on a scanner? Want to scan it and email? I'll pm my email..

If we could get an accurate mustang guard template, I would love to do one in gold. AFAIK I've never seen a mustang with an aluminum guard.
