I found a belmont, which is essentially the same guitar but with two pickups and a tremolo tailpiece, for $75 three years ago. I had to put some work into getting it playable, but it's been my main guitar since I fixed it- it certainly feels like a toy, but I have it setup to be extremely easy to play.sjperry54 wrote:A Supro Sahara...
Typical 60's era cheap guitar. High action, big strings. Played like crap, but the dumbass kid in me didn't know that could be fixed. Now that I know, I wouldn't mind having one for sentimental reasons, but the typical prices are between $1000-$1500. I ain't that damn sentimental! I found one at a guitar show about 15 years ago for $800 which I thought was crazy then. The bad thing is I found out the day after the show that someone who works with my son sold it to the dealer for $200! He said if he'd known, he'd have let me have it for $100!

Re: What was your first Guitar?
I first had a Mexican-made nylon-string. I learned the first-position chords on it, and that was the guitar I had in the fall of '65 when I saw a not-yet-famous Jerry Garcia play the chords to "Gloria" in a Menlo Park guitar store and recognized that they were chords I already knew, thus learning my first rock and roll song. Within a few months, I traded in the Mexican guitar for a Martin 00-17. I didn't go fully electric 'till '74, or so (with a beat-up Jazzmaster).

In 1993, before leaving Switzerland, my dad bought me this MIK Epi Les Paul.

...I played quite a lot of gigs with it, with my 1st band in Costa Rica.
but the pickups squealed SO much, the band HATED me because of it. i have a cassette recording of a gig in '96, which is all SQUEEEEEEAL!!!
Then, in houston in '94 or so i got myself a Peavey Predator for $99 which was stolen during shipping to Costa Rica... so i got myself the MIM Tele in the pic above. Never got along with it, really, but it was nice. Sold it.
And then, in '97, i went to Evan's Music City in Houston, and walked out with...

and

(i remember the muff was $49.99)
oh, good times.
I still have the LP, btw. in pieces...

A cheap strat clone pack from a cash generator shop in Castleford, West Yprkshire. Only had red, I wanted a white one so I painted it with household gloss. Last seen in a skip in East Leeds in 2008. Man, I wish I hadn't done that. Later bought a Yamaha RGX 420. It had a floyd rose, but I played it and played it but never restringing it. Still have the first set of strings it ever had, they are brown. I still have that somewhere, though it's fairly broken. Thought about fixing it but have absolutely no use for a Drop 6 guitar with a floyd rose!

MDF body, tuners that gave the impression the strings were gonna break as they neared pitch! £69 from the argos catalogue.
The worst thing is that someone from school offered me his dad's Burns Vista Sonic for fifteen quid around the same time and I turned it down! What do eleven year olds know anyway!
