Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I have no relation to wildwoodguitars, except buying an LP from them once (great service), but I just wanted to post these neck specs, since they take the time to actually measure up the necks of the individual guitars :-))
First one's the oly white one, the other MKO (just for ID sake)
Neck Dimensions: .810 1st - .960 12th
Neck Dimensions: .820 1st - .990 12th
Width at Nut: 1.650”

I'm actually not that surprised to see this. He has a 60s black/tort jag that he uses fairly frequently (saw it a lot with Modest Mouse, which makes sense, since it was a gift from Isaac Brock), so it wouldn't blow my mind to have him rock that color scheme with the appointments of his sig.jwlee wrote:https://www.instagram.com/p/4hZ-mNuYZ9/
This is the new Johnny Marr Jaguar Black finish /w tortoise pickguard.
But I think it is jut for Johnny, He use it a lot with his sherwood one.
They never said about product it like sherwood green has announced.

Marrs new black jag is pretty meh with that tort. Theres no contrast. Parchment or mint would be so much better. If I were spitfire I'd offer him a nice tort guard for promo...
Those wildwood neck measurements seem off. My AVRI thinskin jazzmaster neck was thicker than .820 when I measured it with digital calipers and it definitely feels thinner than any Marr jaguar neck I've played.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I just got my new, used, Marrguar back from it's first official setup. Completely different guitar. When I bought it from Guitar Center it was a beast to play. High action, uncomfortable... I knew that it just needed some TLC though and, low and behold, now it plays easy as butter with a set of 11's.
It was also interesting to find out that my 4th position wasn't working correctly. When the switch plate was fully bolted down it was causing a short which, in effect, made the 4th position the same as the 3rd. I ended up pulling the plate and ensuring there weren't any wires making contact and I also electrical taped the copper plate at the bottom of the cavity in case that was the culprit. It took a couple of trys, but now it's working fine.
I do find myself feeling slightly "conspiracy theory-ish" about the bridge design of the final product. It makes zero sense to me that an instrument as thoughtfully conceived as the Marrguar would leave a highly refined bridge design alone with flawed string spacing. In the end, it feels like a wink-wink-nudge-nudge so that Staytrem could make some extra money after the fact. No other explanation makes any sense to me. Maybe I should stop listening to the voices...

I think they had a couple a year or so ago, and one was .83 iirc.arkivel wrote:Marrs new black jag is pretty meh with that tort. Theres no contrast. Parchment or mint would be so much better. If I were spitfire I'd offer him a nice tort guard for promo...

That being said, your AVRI might be .82 @1st, but I've never come across an AVRI that tapers to .96 or .99 at the 12th. That taper makes it feel like a substantial neck. The AVRI has a taper similar to this one:

I think the fattest CS JM they've had in and measured, was .86 @1st, similar to this one:

For those who have owned a Johnny Marr for awhile now - how is the paint holding up on yours? I just got the 2nd noticeable chip in mine after approximately 8 months or so. I'm not worrying a lot about it, but it sure doesn't seem to take much of a bump to chip the paint. I don't baby mine but I'm generally pretty careful with it and still ended up with chips in the finish.

Funnily enough I got the first chip in mine a day or so back. I've had it over a year. I think I must have knocked it on the hardware of another guitar whilst putting it in my rack. It's on the back so not too noticeable but I am hoping the finish doesn't start to flake off around the chip.

My buddy just got one of these and the neck is awful feeling, seriously like there's a fuzzy dust build up under the finish. I want to sand it down for him but don't wanna mess it up. I have some super fine grit that I assume would be best - just do a few passes in one direction (headstock toward body?), maybe 5-10 passes? Does that sound good or am I gonna fuck it up? I've never sanded down a neck before.

I thought Marr Jag is one of the best jaguar neck I've ever played.Mechanical Birds wrote:My buddy just got one of these and the neck is awful feeling, seriously like there's a fuzzy dust build up under the finish. You should talk with guitar tech near you about sanding it.

Mine was like that for a while but it goes away after playing it for a while.Mechanical Birds wrote:My buddy just got one of these and the neck is awful feeling, seriously like there's a fuzzy dust build up under the finish. Mine's pretty chipped up, considering the infrequency of my gigging. It's definitely the most beat up looking of any of the guitars I've purchased new, including a ten year old Strat (poly) and 11 year old Tokai 335 (lacquer).Rob J wrote:For those who have owned a Johnny Marr for awhile now - how is the paint holding up on yours? Mine's got some scuffs, but no chipping yet. That's probably because I baby Green Arrow.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
Got mine used (a 2012 KO) from another forum member, and it already came with a few minor chips and scuffs, and now it has a few more. Nothing serious, but give it a few more years and it's going to start to look fairly worn.
And I really like it. The wear looks very much like photos I see online of barely used vintage guitars, the type that might have been played for a few short years before being kept under someone's bed for decades. Surely, then, this is how we should expect these new guitars to wear if Fender are shooting for a more "vintage-accurate" finish?
We (internet guitar-nerds) were bemoaning Fender's over-durable modern poly finishes only a few years ago. Now they're giving us guitars that wear fairly easily, and we bemoan their not-durable-enough finishes.
If you don't like this, buy a guitar finished in poly, or one of Fender's older 62 AVRIs.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I'm not bemoaning anything, the guitar just feels like total shit to play. It's like they sprayed it, let it sit for a day and then shipped it to this dudes house. It literally leaves sticky residue on yr fretting hand when you play it. I wiped it down for a solid 10 minutes thinking it would help a little but that did nothing. Trying to slide yr hand down the neck hurts because the finish is so spackled it resists forward/backward motion.
