Thanks man!! If you didn't know (I know I haven't had many build threads yet), I tend to like weird and different stuff (weird mixes of styles, etc.). Stay tuned!!!Soggasaurus wrote:These are all great, I love project threads and you've picked some good ones! Jazznado is honestly the one I'm looking forward to the most, just because I've wanted a JM-type guitar SO bad.storyboardist wrote:Jazznado! Looking forward to seeing these all take shape. Everything print out ok for you?
Everything printed perfect!! I'm a bit curious about where the neck pocket are on the Newport and Sahara (fretboard lines intersecting the neck pocket area), but I think I'll be able to figure it out just fine Thanks again! The Newport project is gonna be epic I think...

Yeah, the neck pocket is pretty much a blank canvas. It'll just depend on what kind of neck you go with. The Sahara and Newport drawings are show for 24.75" scale, but with a floating bridge (if you end up going that way) you can pretty much use whatever you want. Re: Shadoweclipse13's New Project Thread!
I've always had good luck with Warmoth necks (which I'll probably use for the Jazznado and P-Bass), but I wouldn't mind trying other places. I've never tried mjt, usacg, or a lot of others I've read about here. I think for the Bass VI I'm gonna need a true custom (I've already inquired to a few of the supremely talented and very busy experts around here)... I honestly wouldn't mind trying a neck myself, but there are a lot of tools I don't have for that yet...storyboardist wrote:Yeah, the neck pocket is pretty much a blank canvas. I made my first body with 3/4" MDF templates. The world did not end. I'm a convert to the 1/4" to 3/4" process, but starting off with 3/4" is no problem, it's just going to be a bit more work.
Be sure to keep the sides perpendicular to the flat faces, otherwise your bearing bit will move in/out along with any variations on the sides of the templates as you increase the cut depth. There's really only one place a bearing can run on a 1/4" template, there's a lot more room for variation on a 3/4" template.

I have access to one like I said, but I found a decent looking spindle sander from Harbor Freight and I just got a 20% one item coupon in the mail... I'm kinda picky about power tools, but since a spindle sander is just a motor with a shaft, I figure that'd be pretty hard to crap up. Hahaha.

I really want to know how that Jazznado turns out. Jazzonado? Jazzanado?
I love the Toronado shape, but I like the JM sound better. And the trem, I miss the trem. I'm tempted to get a second Toronado, so I can route it for a JM trem.

Definitely man! Stay tuned!! It might take a little while to get momentum, but by spring, I'll have some bodies roughly cut out and possibly routed!!bkrawetz wrote:I really want to know how that Jazznado turns out. Jazzonado? Jazzanado?

I agree about the shape/sound thing. I've always liked the Toronado (though I DO love the looks of a vintage JM) and I think for me at least, that guitar might be my favorite when I get done with it based on looks and tone alone.

Really cool projects man!
I don't know how far along the line you are with the 3/4" templates, but if you were to do some new templates on 1/4" you would not have wasted any time as you could use those to cut your 3/4" templates having already roughed them out.
I like the idea of the Jazznado. Is that going to have a HB or a P90 in the bridge?

That's actually what I am gonna do. As soon as I find something that's in good shape I'm gonna make some master templates and then start routing.Deed_Poll wrote:Really cool projects man!

Thanks! The Jazznado is gonna be a Jazzmaster in all but looks, so the pickups will be Novak JM pickups!

Re: Shadoweclipse13's New Project Thread!
I had originally asked if anyone around here had them and a few people posted stuff here in this thread:
http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... =8&t=92712
If you click the pictures, it'll redirect you to a download site. I had them printed full size with no size scaling at a local kinkos and so far, they look good in the neck pocket dimensions...

Re: Shadoweclipse13's New Project Thread!
So, minor updates. Still working on my master templates, but I also decided on some different guitar shapes.
I'm going to do a solid body guitar with P90's on a Supro Sahara style body.
Gonna make a hollow/semi-hollow guitar in a shape similar to an Epiphone Century and use a Roadhouse KT100 in the neck (one pickup guitar). I'll probably just wing it for the shape, but I was wondering if anyone has a Century they could take measurements from, or if they had a scan of the shape?

Re: Shadoweclipse13's New Project Thread!
Alright! A bunch of updates!
I have finally decided on a finished design (and color!) for the humbucker guitar and our very own Deed_Poll is building it!
Specs: Mahogany body in 24.75", routed for a two piece TOM/STP style bridge (using the Wilkinson roller bridge). Decided on Bare Knuckle The Mules, will be wired like a typical LP/SG for the most part. Probably gonna get a Warmoth Vortex neck in Mahogany.
I've realized that I have possibly a few too many guitar projects, so I've been thinking about combining a few of them (goldfoil guitar and baritone hybrid possibly, stay tuned!). For the P-90 guitar, I decided to order from the same Chinese custom guitar shop that Sookwinder has ordered from which seems to be great. 335 style in "sunburst" which is darker than I normally think of as sunburst, but would be amazing on a 335. Basically this:
Also, Deed_Poll and I are chatting about building my bass as well, mostly just because I'm getting to that point where I'm dying for a bass and it'll be at least next summer before I get to cutting my own body. Haha. Our very own PorkyPrimeCut designed a body for me which is a Jaguar bass with some P-Bass accoutrements as seen here:
Since the design was finished, I have decided that I want only one pickup, so I'm gonna put the MM pickup under the vintage-style chrome P-Bass pickup cover.
Here's the wiring diagram I decided on for the bass (which will be a Nordstrand MM4.4 made to be an 8 conductor humbucker):
Each coil (south and north) is wired like a 3-way slider switch (like a Mustang pickup selector), then to a series-parallel switch, then a 3-way toggle switch. The pots are a master volume, master tone (with a 2-way slider for two different capacitor options), and a master bass cut. Basically, if everything works right, I'll be able to get both north and south coils separately like a Jazz Bass, P-/Reverse P-type arrangement, full MM, and series/parallel in any of the positions (except the Jazz style coils).
Non-guitar building related, I have been working on a couple guitar stands since my new apartment is kinda small. Feels good, but I also think I made it too shallow from front-to-back, so the second one will be a little deeper.

What is too shallow about it? I guess it might as well be as deep as a guitar is wide?
