I like that one. The companion disc - Passion sources - is arguably even better, it's various inspirations for the soundtrack, either recorded in Gabriel's studio or on location. Gabriel himself doesn't feature (except as producer, I guess).shadowplay wrote:^^^
I must admit I do like the soundtrack to Last Temptation, even if I'm not a fan of a Peter Gabriel In any other context.

I've been trying to get a handle on this sort of stuff for a while and mostly not getting too far, so massive thanks to everyone, I'll be working my way through everything in the next few days!
I'm not sure if this entirely ticks the boxes as to what we're going for, but this has blown my mind every time i've heard it:
Archach - Al-Amber:
http://www.awesometapes.com/archach/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I believe they're Moroccan and have been going for years, I can't say I've been too successful on finding much in the way of details though. They do have a couple of other recordings on spotify, funnily enough. I'm linking to this one based on the first song off this is what kicked me into wanting to find out more of this sort of stuff.
I've also gotten a bit obsessed with the massive guitar solo in this;
Afous D'Afous - Tarhanine Tegla:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eKC_1KHguk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Which i first heard on 6music of all places!

Re: The Arabic/Hebrew desert oasis rose scented band thread.
I though I'd maybe try and get this one going again.
I've been back listening to Sussan Deyhim (& Richard Horowitz) a lot recently, she's the full Princess of Persia and her intensely heady voice is skin prickingly astonishing, bursting with exotic romance and absolutely full of eastern promise. If anything it's a positive celebration of the cultures of that region, something that often get's swept aside in all the warring over oil and religious dogma.
It's hard to link to her stuff because a lot of her best traks like Kye Kye (Who is Who is this?) aren't online. She's always frustrated me because not much came out on vinyl and this means most of it is in coaster format but the absolute classic Desert Equations: Azax Attra is available in black format, as is (Richard Horowitz) Drahcir Ztiworoh - Eros In Arabia record from 1981.
Sussan Deyhim - Gereyley
Richard Horowitz & Sussan Deyhim - Whorl on the Mount of Moon
Sussan Deyhim The Candle and the Moth
Sussan Deyhim - Bade Saba (The Wind Of Saba)
There's a sister dub album by Bill Laswell dub album that's well worth getting called; Shy Angels - Reconstruction And Mix Translation Of "Madman Of God" By Bill Laswell . I can always see where Laswells' bassline are going to go but that doesn't really matter.
Sussan Deyhim - Bade Saba (The Wind Of Saba) (Bill Laswell Mix)
Sussan Deyhim & Richard Horowitz -Desert Equations
Sussan Deyhim & Richard Horowitz - Azax Attra
I've also got recommend the track below which has astonished me for the last 20 years. I LOVE Ofra Haza, The Black Dog and Scanner and this like something I'd ask a Djinn for.
The Black Dog Featuring Ofra Haza - Babylon (Aluminium Glue) Remix by Scanner I uploaded this myself and hope people enjoy it as much as I have.

Re: The Arabic/Hebrew desert oasis rose scented band thread...
I've decided to add some chaos to my listening and draw a random letter from a bag every day, wander to the section and pull a random record.
Today I pulled Saqqara Dogs - World Crunch EP from 1986 and thought it might go down a treat in here since it's far more guitar focussed than most postings.
Saqqara Dogs - Across The Sky
Saqqara Dogs - Greenwich Meantime

I just got the reissue of Hany Mehanna – Agaeb El Rakasat El Sabaa - The Miracles Of The Seven Dances. It's near impossible to sit down when this is on, it's Farfisatastic to a level where I'm starting to wonder if male bellydancing is a thing.
Super recommended.

This made me lol. I already know how your musical appetite and taste know no bounds, but this pushed it into ridiculous territory for me because I am Egyptian and grew up in the 80s watching Hany on TV all the freaking time, so to see him posted 30+ years later on an offset guitar forum is surreal in a fun way. I rejected it at the time because it was my parents' music, but will give it another shot even though it is hard to get past the cover with the belly dancer holding the pyramids. I am optimistic though because there are no vocals -- they ruin any egyptian song for me.shadowplay wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2018 5:03 amI just got the reissue of Hany Mehanna – Agaeb El Rakasat El Sabaa - The Miracles Of The Seven Dances. That's really interesting, I didn't know anything about him. When I was a kid some fairly well respected folk musicians put bread on the table by singing songs on children's tv.
Egyptian music is a bit of an unknown world to me, I keep meaning to look deeper since I've enjoyed so much Iranian and Turkish music. I can only think of Omar Khorshid off the top,of my head.

New Insanlar 12" is full of Eastern Promise (as the Frys Turkish Delight advert would have put it).
This is just a 4 minute snippet, it's two 22 minute tracks.
Inslanar - Demedim Mi Bandcamp but it has distribution and just bought mine in a shop.
