Silver Zvex Fuzz Factory

I feel a bit sad about fact that little fuzz factory is becoming rare stuff in forum threads and boards. Maybe the reason is that it is being suggested on the net only as a crazy-noise-generator because of its oscillation abilities with stab knob. Sure it can do a lot of crazy stuff with it but why nobody cares about good and usable sounds that it can do too? Its tough a challenge to dial the usable sound by yourself, but there are a lot of good presets on the net, just google "fuzz factory settings". Its much easier to twist knobs a bit left or right after you found setting that you like. It does really really a lot of stuff : mostly fuzz-facish + octavia , 60s style fuzzes like sam ash & fuzzrite & fuzztone ( I had them all ) , sometimes like a muff with lesser low end and bigger clarity , and couple of good overdrive settings. Mine is in a silver sparkle, only two pieces were issued in 2003, this is number one :)

Well, of course you're able to dial in usable settings.

After all, judging by the broom, I'm left with no other assumption than you must be some sort of witch or warlock.

I love FFs...I've had 3 in the past...I did always find them a bit bright with my setup, which was why I moved them on.

For what it's worth, I didn't find them to be that whacky, once I figured out what the knobs did. Especially the "Stab" knob.

I've wanted to pick another one up for a while, but the earlier ones are a bit over-priced on eBay, in my opinion.

This one was on sale on eBay for a while, right? I think I had it on my watch list 8)

I've had one on my board for 13 years (!), first a Vexter then a limited edition green Union Jack one which is funny if you live in my part of the world.

It's a great pedal but 90% of what I've used it for is trying to make it sound as much like a Companion Fuzz as possible and I've done embarrassingly little experimentation with it for the length of time I've had it. I really should just cut my losses and buy a basic extreme fuzz without all the whistling and farting whenever I change pickups or graze a knob.

I like how the letters float above the sparkle. I had a Fuzz Probe for a brief moment in time, but it never did anything that other boxes couldn't do better. Except for sound like I was playing bagpipes. It was good for that, which for me is almost never.

Would love to know what settings you use to get the companion fuzz sound...Would you mind sharing some tips?

Sorry, I worded that badly. My intent was just that I've had this Factory of Fuzz for years and years yet my main fuzz goal is something much more rudimentary that it won't do very well, if at all.

Ha ha..got you. Was hoping I was just not able to find it but it was there all along. I'm in a similar place in that it might not do my absolute favourite fuzz sound, but it wins due to the incredible flexibility vs having a pedal that does basically one sound. And it does sound great...it just can't do everything. I have the fat version too which adds some interesting textures. But I wish I had a beautiful hand painted one like yours. Will have to continue to keep my eyes open.

I used to have one just like that, but I sold it before I finally figured out how to use fuzz for a few of my songs.

Reanimating this thread to ask if there's any actual difference between the old hand painted one and the mass produced ones. Is it just a collectability thing? Is it an imaginary tone mojo magic bs thing? Or is it a very real, tangible, they used one component, but then they ran out and switched to a different component thing? Asking for my wallet.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

No idea, but there are even differences between hand-painted ones. Some sound better than others.

I have a hand-painted one, it sounds good to me. I mainly use it in self-oscillating mode for "noise" sections. I'd like to have a vertical one, but I don't like the (current) design.

Not what I wanted to hear. It's like how all PAFs are different or all tweed deluxes. Why can't it be simple?

Ok, thanks.

Tis the nature of germanium transistors. The same one can even sound different depending on the temperature of the room! :derp:
