Tele Thinline

Post by mcjt » Thu Feb 21, 2008 1:14 pm

I've had a 1978 Tele neck for 5 years. Really needed a COOL body to put it on.
you know, i had watched ebay bidding frenzies over period correct 7 pound boat anchors, or even more expensive early CBS bodies... but i needed something WORTHY of a mint 78 Tele neck without breaking the bank---
Last Friday night i was at Rudy's Music in NYC, and the most beautiful Thinline came in on trade. it even had huge amounts of FLAME in the ash!
It inspired me to search for the perfect body on the weekend....
and i found it.
a 2 lb, 6 oz Thinline body from Warmoth. Very nice grain. A slightly yellowed true celluloid thinline guard.
on an ambered Nitro finish on the body. Almost a replica of what i saw at Rudy's.
i'll add a nice pic of the neck a bit later.

I just had to share:

Looks great. Is your neck a 4 bolt or does it have that micro tilt?
I almost bought a new neck for my Thinline yesterday, but thank god I got outbid...I'm saving for a neck for my JM!
I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth.

I think the 71 was before the microtilt. and my 78 neck  was a 4 bolt, so no microtilt there either.
Does anyone have an opinion on Rhythm pickup screwed into body vs. pickguard?
My neck is rosewood, so it'll have a nicer, mellower sound than a one-piece maple neck.

How about a wide range humbucker in the neck position, and a bigsby?  That would be the shizzle.
I can't hear the forest for all the falling trees.

David- really? i'll lend it to you sometime to drive you nuts.....

Jetset- I have a pair of WRHB- and i hear ya, it sounds like fun to put in a WRHB in the neck position, but i don't think it would fit the guard or the design very well.

I'd love that!! I almost bought a CIJ reissue thinline last year, just before I got the Mustang Bass..... There's just something about that wacky pickguard design and the semi-hollow body...  :?

since we're on the topic on thinlines, does anyone know where I might be able to get my hands on a 69' Flame Thinline Tele?

Perhaps in your local music store... or perhaps a friend thats thinking of selling?

I picked up my Thinline body in the US last week. it weighs nothing!!!! never picked up a guitar body like this!
Warmoth celluloid guard, 250k pots, odds and ends, a pair of vintage strap pegs i found, WD neckplate and ferruls, and that old 1978 neck... and
voilà!
now i'm off to find some grain filler... once i dig out the 18 inches of snow we had this weekend!
