"Vintage" neck plates

Post by mcjt » Tue Feb 26, 2008 8:52 am

This fellow is trying to pass off new neck plates with random serial #'s as vintage plates. it would appear that he has the tooling to properly stamp onto new plates, so he can do L serials, F plate serials, pre L series etc... whatever you want.
and charge $80! people are lining up to buy these!

I guess he's not trying to "pass these off as vintage", he is DOING it and pocketing SERIOUS change!

Now don't all run at the same time to check this out..... :)

That's nothing a $10 set of stamps from Harbor Freight won't do...

According to Jim Shine it's easy to tell a vintage plate because they would first stamp them and then plate them as opposed to plate first then stamp which is cheaper. Is that what this guys doing?

I am unsure as to what the actual procedure is with this reseller.
HOWEVER, it sure looks to me that he is taking aftermarket (Fender and non-Fender) neck plates and stamping serial #'s on them. You just have to look into his feedback; DOZENS of auctions for $80 serial #'ed plates.... a thick Fender RI plate is $8 MSRP, and a 'F' plate $12.... he stamps them and sells them EASILY for $50 plus.
Sheesh!

heh. i'm just jealous i didn't think of this first.......
