The situation: I pack a guitar and my recording gear, except for my stationary Mac, and take the train to visit some friends ca 1000km away(15 hours next to a screaming child...). We were going to write and record a few songs. They have a brand new Vista machine. It turns out that there are NO VISTA DRIVERS for my Behringer FCA202 interface. What to do?

What would i rent?
I've been a Mac use for years, so the combination of Vista and suddenly having to deal with something as retarded as drivers is really making me go

Try running Vista in XP compatibility mode and see if that works.

The problem is semi-solved. They have an old XP laptop, so i'm using that instead. Only 256 MB RAM though, so it's basically a glorified 8-track
Buying new gear is not an option, the nearest music store is ca 4 hours away. This is about as remote as you can get in europe.

I think that's technically in asia, even if the whole europe-asia divide is totally fictional, geographically it is just one big continent.
Just northern sweden, and i'm wearing two sweaters and a jacket. I think i'm gonna go walk the dog and smoke a cigarette, see if i can spot some of those fancy northern lights
I don't want to go back to the city
