1966 Fender Mustang project
Hey guys! This is my first vintage fender, i got it off some guy locally for $600. its beat up, missing strap buttons, has no finish, and someone drew buttcheeks and a tramp stamp on the back. Im currently debating as to whether i should refinish it in a vintage accurate color (probably would go with white), although i also want to go crazy and possibly refinish it in a custom color (shell pink? burgundy mist?)
any thoughts? anything i should be aware of? i'll update with more pics when i make progress!

Nice one! I'll wait for the guys who really know what they're talking about to post something about what is worth and what isn't.
meanwhile here are your pics:

Nice score!! Shall we call it the Buttstang? . Looks in pretty decent shape. Given that it has a pearloid pickguard, it was most likely daphne blue or dakota red (mustangs came originally in those 3 colors only). If it was mine I'd go for daphne blue all the way. That being said, burgundy mist is a great choice even if it's not vintage accurate. Sweet deal! Keep us posted.

Very cool, & sure couldn't argue with the price !
A vote for Black, here..I know it's not standard, but every time I've seen a Black re-fin Mustang, particularly w/ a slightly yellowed pearloid 'guard, I've thought 'Man,that colour REALLY suits a Mustang !'.
Speaking of Black, I love the degree of tarnish on the 'cigar tube'.
It's a beauty,mate.. congratulations !
Cheers,
Jeff.

I totally forgot I made this post years ago! Still not entirely sure how to add pictures either but I went with a somewhat cheaply done light candy pink and wore the paint out in a lot of areas - can’t wait for the back of the body to wear out so the ass shows again

Ignore the spaces I put within the brackets. I had to space it in order to show the example without if automatically formulating to “” but your version will not have spaces
