Borderline has always been my favorite. I like the early Madonna. Remember when girls were copping that look? Scrunchied hair, big bows, fishnet wrist gloves...the good 'ol days.

Big fan. And The Immaculate Collection has definitely been one of my favorite soundtracks for bopping around Brooklyn since I moved here.scottT wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 8:57 amBorderline has always been my favorite. I would say my best NYC/Madonna moment was sitting alone in a pizza shop on a rainy night and they had this video on the TV in there:

^^^my mom burned through at least four cassette copies of The Immaculate Collection ferrying us kids around in the family wagon back in the day; it was literally the only thing she listened to.
As for my favorite Madonna tune...Madonna - Hung Up, without pause

Crazy For You:

Borderline is really my favorite, though. There's somebody pretending to smoke in the video, and it always made me laugh. They couldn't get an extra that actually smoked back in 198_?

I'm going to pitch in Hung Up as peak recentish Madonna (it's actually a teenager), I also really like the Get Together song off this album. Hung Up is a total floor killer from it's pop socks to it's to it's Farrah Fawcett flip fringe, five minutes of unimpeachably cheeky pop hedonism.
I'm putting it right out there and say that I can't be the only one wishing Madge would just lift the fucking phone to Johnny Jewel, a three song 12' is all I'm asking. Seriously how hard can it be.

My favorite Madonna album is Bedtime Stories, although I've got a soft spot for Music as well. I like her earlier stuff, but those albums really hit all the right spots for me. I haven't followed her as closely over the last 10 years or so, but I like some of the stuff I hear. She's just ballsy. I love how fearlessly she's approached each era of her career.
A few of my favorite songs:
Bedtime Story (incidentally written by Bjork)
Human Nature
Paradise (Not For Me)
I'd Rather Be Your Lover (Meshell Ndegeocello is one badass musician -- her bass playing is incredible)

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I can't remember the title of it but she recorded it in Trubbeldeep...

I apologise for the obviousness (and I've never got the hand of youtube links from a phone) but Into the Groove gets my vote. The perfect mix of pop innocence and club/disco floor filler.
Madonna was one of my first musical loves, at age 10 I thought she was amazing, so I have really fond memories of her first few albums.

upvoted for truth! the whole Immaculate Collection is ace (even with the egregious omission of Burning Up), but Into the Groove is transcendent -

im down with pretty much everything until 2005 and even after that, there are still a bunch of bangers.
my favs are Crazy For You (from the Vision Quest soundtrack !), Take A Bow, Into The Groove, Borderline, Who's That Girl (shit movie though)...
the drum playing in Material Girl drives me insane. some of my favorite drumming is on that track.

Immaculate collection has given me countless joyful summers, and from that probably la Isla Bonita or like a prayer.
However....think it’s frozen for me. Ray of light was quite a big album for me. It was around then that I rediscovered a love of pop, and it was part of a two year period where William Orbit was making great pop records.

Liked her early stuff although it didn't really gel with my other tastes. She showed that pop could still be done well (as Blondie had earlier). And she was a force of nature then. Had this live 1988 concert in Torino on an old VHS tape off the TV. Got played a lot then. Still stands up.
