Re: Tele Thinline
with so many single coil guitars, and giving up my WRHB's, would it be heresy to put this into the Tele on the neck position?

Noooo. I know there are trendier pickup brands in the world, but I swear by all three of the SD sets I have.

It wouldn't be my choice - Seymours are good pups, but overpriced.mcjt wrote: with so many single coil guitars, and giving up my WRHB's, would it be heresy to put this into the Tele on the neck position?
However, I'm sure it would sound great in the neck position of a Tele Thinline, and I think it'd work really well in combination with a regular Tele bridge pup. And it would definitely look cool. You'd need to cut the guard to measure, though.

That's exactly what I'm going to do with the "sparklecaster" when I replace the body with a Thinline:jetset wrote: How about a wide range humbucker in the neck position, and a bigsby? That would be the shizzle.

Re: Tele Thinline
It'll pickup sounds when it's screwwed into the body that it otherwise wouldn't. i had a tele for a while that would pickup the strap creaking, if you did it right. I kind of like the screwwed in version as oppsed to the "resting above" version.mcjt wrote:
Does anyone have an opinion on Rhythm pickup screwed into body vs. pickguard?
I prefer their older stuff.

Yeah. You can't see the subtle lumpiness of the finish in the pics thoughRumorsOFsurF wrote: Is it one you built, Scot?

Lesson learned..."don't use nitro over big-assed sparkle flakes". I should have used poly to clearcoat it...I went through coat after coat of nitro (until I got sick of painting and finally gave up) and the finish is still slightly lumpy. Still, it's shiny and looks great even close up. You really have to be within a foot of the guitar and/or touch the finish before you realize it isn't glass smooth.
The body is a little bit heavier than I like too so I'm probably going to replace it with a Thinline style body with a thin nitro finish (maybe in Gretsch transparent orange) and use all of the existing parts (neck, original WR humbucker, bridge, Bigsby, etc). That pic of the Seymour Duncan mini-bucker got me thinking though...I have an old minibucker I scored off of fleabay that I 'think' might have CuNiFe polepieces like the Fener WR (or at least they're rumoured to) that would probably fit better if I was to go with a Thinline pickguard on it. It's a cool minibucker in that it looks like a miniature version of the WR with the polepieces offset in exactly the same way.
I just saw Tab Benoit a few weeks ago...it was great inspiration for building a Thinline with WRs!!
