Got a Chinese Flying V.. I sent them this pic, so lets see what kind of concoction they come up with.. I mean how hard could it be to fuck up a V?
This isn't from that myrareguitars something something... This is from a random seller on aliexpress.
2 things i asked for:
-Short Lyre Trem
-Of course, No Logo. (And since everyone steals designs from everybody else in the guitar design world, I have zero guilt about buying a Chinese copy.)
Let the wait begin..

If I may ... some general ordering advice.... for anyone considering a Chinese made guitar from Aliexpress (or any other Chinese outlet)
1. Do not assume that you will automatically get the "best quality" of anything.
For example you need to explicitly request "best quality pickups" (the actual cost difference is minimal, but quality difference is noticeable)
I have two LP style gtrs from one place and the second time around it was fitted with a top quality bridge.
Luck of the draw ... maybe
2. Do not try and ask for a particular colour finish that may not be on their current product line ... it seems to me that the subtleties of colour variation has not got into the Chinese psyche ... it is red, blue, yellow, green, orange and maybe light or dark versions.... asking for a foam green or a yellowed LPB is just noise to them. They will use what ever is in their current paint bins.
3. I will be very interested in whether they actually understand what a Short Lyre Trem is....
The factory that I have been talking with for the past 3 years, has no idea about names and functionalities or variations in part fitment that anyone here was assume was fundamental knowledge of guitars. Even the concept of fitting a strat trem to a Jaguar and saying it is a "genuine Jaguar" design didn't seem to register as something (white cool to some people) that wasn't what the majority of potential Jaguar buyers wanted.
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

I sent them pictures of the short lyre, by itself and on a Flying-v.
But yes, communication is a pain in the ass.

I've seen that before, and you know what? Part of me is happy it exists. It's just plain amusing on so many levels.

The visual irony in that design is really smart. Your brain keeps wanting to evaluate it from a different perspective to make it right

Ah, so
that's the poor quality control at Gibson I've been hearing about... now I get it.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

That thing just looks like a huge spatula to me...
We're having technical difficulties with the V, the one short lyre in stock is damaged. So the seller does not want to use it.
He told me to pick another guitar, and then he said the Mighty Firebird is the house specialty. The only problem is that he doesnt have banjo tuners... He only has those ugly sperzel looking copies that all the cheap guitars get...

Just some more random thoughts about Chinese guitar manufacture...
- I have never seen an actual Chinese made guitar with a Lyre trem unit. Yeah there are the occasional photos you see on the websites/pages of Aliexpress, but ever one of those photos is stolen from somewhere in the west. But I'd be happy if I was mistaken
- I find it a little un believable that they only had one Lyre unit left in the bin and it was damaged. Again I may be mistaken but it sounds like BS to me
- I assume the seller is not a manufacture, the odds of you randomly picking one are pretty low, he can only select from the models he has access to that are made by the manufacturer(s) . If he is pushing you to another model, he can't get what you asked for in the first place... it isn't available.
- The whole concept of a total custom build (i.e. build a model that they do not normally build) is not in their lexicon

If you type vibrola, or maestro guitar on the aliexpress search window, you get a few hits. The pics do suggest that yes, they do make some guitars with them.
They dont look like stolen pics to me, or that they are from a real Gibson.

Interesting ... is there an Epiphone model that is made in China that has one of these types of trems?
this could account for the increased number that come up in a search...
When i looked about 12 months back, there was only a very small number on Aliexpress
