Stratomaster Planned and Built

I bought and finished this body with Olympic Girl Wudtone before I mocked it up in the Dressing Room but decided to see how it would all look before putting it together. The body is made from white pine by Rosser Guitars and the 24.75" Pau Ferro conversion neck was made by Hilimire Guitars. Most of the parts, including the pickguard, the pickups and Tremolo are from Guitarfetish.

I like it! I also think that for a Strat to have a JM vibrato, you've got the best of both worlds

It was fun to build and it mostly came out like I wanted it to.

I love this combination of Olympic White with the mint pickguard, JVG. I would have loved to do something like this but I wanted a finish I could do in my apartment. The "Olympic Girl" Wudtone really looks almost like the raw pine it started out as. I also tried aging the pickguard further in coffee but it's pretty subtle. I only waited about 3 days.

How does yours sound? I’ve got “vintage style” strat pickups in mine, but the guitar doesn’t sound at all like a strat - i put it down to the bridge/vibrato arrangement.

I expected it to sound like a Strat but, as you said, the string length after the bridge probably has some effect on the tone. Also, it's Gibson scale so that probably affects the tone as well.

The Lil' Killer pickups sound great. I have them in my Mustang as well. The difference between the three pickup positions is pretty subtle, compared with a lot of guitars. The bridge pickup is really hot, even in split mode, so there's a pretty good balance among the three pickups, tonally and in volume.

I have an electronics issue with the neck pickup being really quiet and only getting louder when the the middle tone know is rolled off. I was thinking of wiring the middle tone knob to the bridge pickup instead since that seems like something I would use more often.

I'm planning to record a demo when it's working properly.
