Any love for Vox amps?

Underrated amps in my humble opinion. There's just something about that chime. Got any love for Vox? Let's hear it!

I have Fender & Vox Amps. I like them equally.. Each does what they do extremely well. IMO better than all the other Amps...

I've tried lots of Amps & always come back to Fender & Vox...

One of the features I like about Vox is the Top Boost.. I like being able to dial in Gain at any volume... Especially pumping thru a Celestion Alnico Blue Speaker... It doesn't get any better than that.... That said, they do also sound great Clean.....

Errr...Hardly! ;)

I've used one of those little AC4 reissues as my gigging amp for years, miked. Was great until it blew up onstage.

some kind of ambivalent love

i like the tonality and organic sound. seems to really become part of the instrument and add harmonics that nothing else adds.

but craps out when you do anything other than basic 'dirty clean' so for that reason i got rid of it. Its quite unusable and i was kidding my self to make it work beyond those sound to be honest..

They are not an underdog :-[ That said - I keep trying to make myself sell my AC4 , but it keeps justifying its existence. Not my favorite tone, but useful - and nice with Jazzmasters.

You must've got a bad Amp. It can happen to any of them...

I've played Vox AC10 & AC15's for several years with 0 issues.. Soft, Loud, Clean, Dirty, whatever...... Great Amps!

I've got an AC15 clone, an Ace Tone Rockey. I've held on to it nigh 20 years, just because it sounds incredible. It's a mess anymore and needs serious servicing, which I'll get to at some point and give it a real restoration. What a sound, and it's got tremolo, too.

Even the Vox pathfinder 15 is an awesome sounding amp. Voxes and Hiwatts, those are my thing.
This is an excellent rectangle

I love them.

I've had a Laney VC30 for years, and I love it, and while it's their version of it and it's badass in its own right, it's not a Vox.

More recently I've bought a lot of Vox AC4 TVs. I started with a 10" combo, then bought another one. Then I bought the head & 12" cab mini stack, then another, and another. Most of them were already upgraded with tubes and speakers. Then I bought an AC4C1 TV, and I cannibalized some of the other upgrades into it, and I like it better than the other ones, although I'm keeping some of them. So now I'm selling one 10" combo and one of the mini stacks, and I'm going to try to get an AC15C1 TV.

Maybe one day I'll get a higher level AC 15 or 30, but baby steps, and for low wattage amps these sound great. I pulled the 10" combo that I'm selling out the other night to play on, and it sounded really great, with just a Throback OD/B and a Symphonic Resonator reverb pedal. It's got the stock tubes and speaker from the AC4C1 in it, and they're pretty new (doubt the speaker is really broken in), but damn if it didn't sound really nice.

I also have a couple of Frenzels, that are a Deluxe and Plexi clone (one also has a JCM 800 option), and a couple of Bugera T5's (which seem Marshall-y), so I think I have most of the sounds I need covered. It's just hard to keep the 25-30 watt amps turned down so low, so the 4/5 watt amps come in very handy.

Two of the AC30C2-CM, one with UK Alnico Blues, the other with UK Alnico Creams. The little Brian May faux-Deacy on top has a NOS 1960s Brit Alnico speaker and is great for finding out which of your pickups are at all microphonic :D

Very cool. Nice guitar collection as well.

I'm kind of partial to the cream tolex, I guess since all of my AC4TVs are cream (and the C1 is cream/blue). All of my other guitar amps are kind of traditional black. Oh, except the Bugera's. Well, the cage is chrome, but the chassis is black.

I also think I'm kind of scared to try out a really nice Vox AC15 or 30. They get expensive.
