Chrome pickup/string covers?
Sorry about the crappy title - just wondered if anyone was aware of any guitars, modded or not, that had a similar type of chrome cover over the pickups and the strings like those on vintage J Basses?

Haha, yeah kinda, thanks though. It's still just an idea atm, and I don't know if I just made this up in my head, but I'm sure I saw a project on here recently - a tele i think, forgive me if its wrong - with a strange looking pickup that sort of covered and shielded the strings in the same place as regular pickups would be.the older brother wrote:

Sounds like a horseshoe pickup, like on lap steels.

Re: Chrome pickup/string covers?
When I got my Squier '51, I wanted to get a JB pickup cover (probable a 5-string one, a bit larger) to put at the level of the pickup... I didn't do it, but kept the idea in mind.

Re: Chrome pickup/string covers?
That's the kinda idea I'm after... don't you think a JB cover will be monstrously large on a Jag or a JM though?
EDIT: And the pickup in the project I was referring to was very similar to that horseshoe pickup you mentioned, mezcalhead, although I think I remember it covered the strings completely.

I think I've seen early Rics (guitars or basses) with that horseshoe cover IIRC.mezcalhead wrote: Sounds like a horseshoe pickup, like on lap steels.

Re: Chrome pickup/string covers?
slightly off topic ...
older brother , what colour is that jaguar meant to be ? On my screen here at work it looks violet/purple-ish
(where did you get the pic from ?)

Re: Chrome pickup/string covers?
I (picture) Googled "Fender Jaguar" in search for a bridge cover picture and that was the first one that came up that had a cover...sookwinder wrote: (where did you get the pic from ?)

It looks quite sweet though - even though obviously not a original custom colour (if not a custom shop guitar - that'll say).
I would have taken that ugly leather jacket out of the frame before taking the picture though

You remember correctly... I don't think they keep making it anymore, but that's one of the coolest looking pickups I've ever seen, and always wanted a 4001 just for it.the older brother wrote: I think I've seen early Rics (guitars or basses) with that horseshoe cover IIRC.

Re: Chrome pickup/string covers?
Back when dinosaurs still walked the earth someone gave me a home-made electric double bass with an interesting Framus pick-up in it. The pick-up basically was similar to the F-cover on JBs, but with the Framus logo imprinted in it...it had perforations in the back to hold the string ball ends (so it also served as either a tailpiece or perhaps even an unadjustable bridge), and the actual pick-up was mounted inside the cover, so it was actually above rather than under the strings. Instead of a jack, it had banana plug connectors. I foolishly gave it away when I was 18 or so.
