I'm just having my silverface Deluxe reverb serviced, and it seems like it's going to be all good again. Great.
Now I want it to be a tad louder. Extension cab = too large, too heavy, too expensive. Swap speakers? Hmmm...
The Oxford speakers in the later Deluxes are not great anyway, and I'm looking into the 50W Eminence LEGEND GB128.
It's not too expensive, seems to be balanced, and it doesn't have an insane power rating.
Question is:
Will the 22W DR still deliver enough to get at least some speaker breakup on a 50W rated speaker? Or will all I get be amp
distortion through a very clean speaker? I'm very fond of the kind of organic overdrive where the whole system is contributing...
What do you think??? :-\

I would think the DR will drive that eminence plenty. In any case it's not too expensive so it shouldn't be much of a loss to flip if you don't love it.

not hard at all, just mind you replace an 8ohm speaker with an 8 ohm speaker!
I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth.

if you want it to be auctually LOUDER look for a speaker with a higher efficancy rateing than the one you have now...

Re: 50W speaker in Deluxe Reverb?
that's what i'm doing, actually... the original oxford spkr is rated 25w, breaks up at 4. the eminence would be 50w - and i could live with a later breakup because i always play on 10, anyway. and maybe it would give me some headroom for the fuzz, because when i kick it in on the cranked DR, it sounds like heaven (everything compressing and freaking out) but there's no noticeable increase in volume, haha.Professor Plum wrote: if you want it to be auctually LOUDER look for a speaker with a higher efficancy rateing than the one you have now...
