"Kustom" Jag Bari Custom

Post by MelWaldorf » Thu Apr 03, 2008 1:44 pm

Put the finishing touches on my kustomized Jaguar Baritone Custom last night - I installed a Jaguar bridge and (re-installed) a thin switch.

Installing the bridge was pretty straightforward - knock off the legs, ream the post holes for clearance, and cut down the saddle screws so they don't interfere with the strings.

The thin switch was also a quicky - I used a miniswitch on the pickguard over the channel route.

Below are pictures of the routing and bridge, and the finished product.  The Jag bridge allows better string placement over the pickups and the thin switch adds more tonal variety.

sweet!

i'm tempted to try the trem mod on my own jag bari  :) was it hard routing and aligning the tailpiece?

any special pickups or pots in yours? i'm starting to find that the stock CIJ pickups just aren't cutting the mustard these days. and the volume and tone pots alter the tone drastically once you go from 10 to 8...

MUST SEE FULL GUITAR SHOT.
I prefer their older stuff.

Stratelejazzuar,
The tremolo wasn't hard to do since I didn't care to make the route look nice :)  Seriously, I used the chrome mounts of the original stop tailpiece as a guide to get the plate centered, marked where the screw holes would be, and then traced out the approximate size of the route with a marker and started drilling.  The key is not to go out the other side!  You can see a bit of my cutting style in the top picture with the middle pickup tracings.

Aen, I didn't take any full picture shots of the guitar last night, but here's a picture I've posted before:

It's strung with a set of D'Addario chromes 12s, less the 12, and a 65 for the low string, tuned B-B.  While it's sort of tempting to install a mute, I think it would look silly the way the bridge is angled.

Aen,
Run, baby, run!  The more the merrier.  I've been drooling over all those gorgeous VIs coming out of the custom shop but these Jag Baris are really solid and a heck of a bang for the buck.

I've been thinking about doing this too.  I am in the process of refining my barijag in Fiesta Red over the sunburst

Agreed.  It's a great instrument for the money.
