Yep, I should've clarified. I'm definitely referring to pedals that have had a successor or two since the XX-2. Not referring to the pedals that STILL have an XX-2 designation.Futuron wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 1:10 amMost Boss pedals are 'XX-2', originating from any decade. I guess maybe you're referring to pedals that have since had 'XX-3', 'XX-5' etc versions? If so, it might be a case of 'the original version was better, before they ruined it with digital/Korea/whatever'Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:57 pmYou're not the first person to mention the DD-2 in this thread. Does the DD-2 sound that much different from the DD-3 (and further single-sized DD-series)? From all the classic gear I've seen people talk about, it seems like so much of the BOSS stuff from the XX-2 era is just amazing (CE-2, etc.).

Go for it mate! You can pick them up so cheaply and it's got a few really great sounds in it.Jazzmastervsjaguar wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 6:39 amBeen looking into the BC-2. Looks like a great little pedal for a small price.

Yeah, I had brought it up before. It's one of those "there's something about it" sounds that's hard to explain. Really has a quality that is very pleasing to the ear.AwesomeWelles wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 12:50 amThe DD-2 and the early DD-3's share the same processor, the so-called 'long chip' (it's as wide as the casing). These are regarded for having an almost analog-like, more organic sound. Honestly, it's just because of the low processing power but I love the sound.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:57 pm

Re: Favorite BOSS pedal.
The DD-500 delay has a DD-2 emulation selectable from the 'vintage digital' mode. It's the one I use the most on that pedal. I haven't played a DD-2 in a LONG time, but the DD-500 DD-2 emulation sounds like I remember, and I've heard comparisons between the two and I can't tell the difference. So it's good enough for me.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:57 pmYou're not the first person to mention the DD-2 in this thread. Interesting - did not know that! Right now I'm on more of an echoplex-type kick as far as delay sounds but that's good to know.sunburster wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 2:05 pmThe DD-500 delay has a DD-2 emulation selectable from the 'vintage digital' mode. Re: Favorite BOSS pedal.
lately. it's been the OS-2...... no really. ive been tracking a lot of rhythm guitar stuff and i got one in a pawn shop before lockdown for £20 and i've been blown away with it. it's set more towards the DS side but still has some OD to it to fill out the sound.

One of my friends got one of these recently and was really digging all the sounds he was getting with it. I'm curious as to how it blends between OD and distortion.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 6:43 pmlately. it's been the OS-2...... no really. ive been tracking a lot of rhythm guitar stuff and i got one in a pawn shop before lockdown for £20 and i've been blown away with it. it's set more towards the DS side but still has some OD to it to fill out the sound.

Re: Favorite BOSS pedal.
I replaced a DD20 that was stolen from me, for a long long time that was my fave.
Really like the RC-1. Just 1 volume knob and a clock wheel to see where you are in the loop.
Regrettably sold my Tera echo. I liked that on bass to add some highs and texture.
PS5, with a slide I can fake some pedal steel sounds.
The Slicer, it got so much hate for being a glorified tremolo.
And it is. Every youtube video on it, they crank the effect level and have it chopping at a crazy speed,
so it sounds like lame techno on guitar.
I like to dial back the effect and have some clean signal, tap in something slower.
That way, there's a tempo in the background to improvise over top of. I use it more like percussion I guess.

TU-3
Mostly 'cause it can turn off bad sounds coming from bad players.
After that, it has to be the VB-2

I like the Boss CE-2w. Sits at the end of my chain before the amp. I owned an old CE-2 that totally fucked with my clean sound, but the CE-2w does not at all.
Despite the hate they sometimes get, I really like the buffers on their modern pedals.

It's funny, there was the whole "true bypass or death" thing, and then the same people would whine about their signal not making it through their chain and it was on to the cork sniff tests for cables and who made the best buffer pedal they could use to solve their problem when all they needed was a buffered bypass pedal somewhere in there.FiestaRed335 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 9:50 amDespite the hate they sometimes get, I really like the buffers on their modern pedals.
