Sauerkraut wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 7:47 amThis ugly thing was my first guitar, a 2003 Chinese Squier Strat (Affinity). Those are probably among the worst Squiers ever made. I figured since it's not worth selling, I might as well change it into something fun. So I got rid of the old, cracked 1-ply pickguard and had one custom-made (by Axion in England, highly recommended!) for this odd pickup combination.
It now has a USACG Jazzmaster neck (broken truss rod, still useable, just not on my JM), Tele neck and bridge pickups (latter with a baseplate) with a Jaguar pup in the middle. I wired it with master volume, master tone and blend knob to mix in the neck or bridge pickup (depending on the switch position).
Looks pretty bad, sounds really good.
I like the Tele + Jag combo:

YES! I did a similar mod to my first guitar, which was also an affinity Strat. However I didn’t have the Jag middle pickup, that’s a very nice touch.

My current Strats are a Fender American Vintage '65 Strat in shoreline gold and a Fender 50's Vintera Strat Modified body in daphne blue paired up with a Fender Licensed Chunky Tinted Maple Nitro Strat 9.5" radius neck. Unless I win the lottery to get a '63 Fender Strat or even a Custom Shop '63 Strat, these are keepers.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
Since the last time I posted my Strats, I have sold off four and added one, so an updated pic is long overdue.
L-R: 2020 Player Strat - Electron Green, upgraded with American Ultra vibrato & locking tuners
Partscaster - OTM, MIM body, 1986ish MIJ E series Fender neck, Rose Mariposa A3 pickups, Highwood saddles)
Both have a mini on/off switch to activate the neck pickup, as well as having the second tone knob wired to the bridge pickup.
I also have a Partscaster made from the body from my first guitar and a cheap Squire neck & pickups. This thing is just ornamental these days, so I'm not including it here.
Years ago, my collection was mostly Strats, but I'm totally happy with just these two strats now. They fulfill all of my Straty desires.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
I like the way some Strats feel and sound but I'm not crazy about the way they look, compared to offsets anyway. Plus, its difficult to get past their blues rock association, but since this is an appreciation thread, the Strat is the most popular selling guitar in the history of electric guitars, and its apparent Leo Fender put a lot of thought into the design. I like Telecasters, but the contoured body of a Strat is way more comfortable, the tremolo is great, and the additional tonal variations are a step up. Although, I'd still take a Jazzmaster over one any day.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
I am currently Stratless, but if I build a Strat project in the future, like I plan too, I have a loaded pickguard ready to go!
I had all these parts laying around and thought they'd look good and work well together... Not sure if that's correct or not just yet...
The black knob is a master volume. The upper tinny silver knob is a spin-a-spit for the bridge humbucker and the black toggle is wired to the middle pickup wired as of it's two single coil pickups rather than a single humbucker... So it's kind of like a 5 pickup arrangement instead of 3...

I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

I love it ! I would definitely try this on some of my strats in the future. This seems like a proper use case for one spare hot rails pickup that's been laying around in my spares drawer for years...AWSchmit wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 12:42 pmI am currently Stratless, but if I build a Strat project in the future, like I plan too, I have a loaded pickguard ready to go!

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
Not a really a fan of the Stratocaster - I've owned quite a few as I've always been trying to find one I like as a lot of my favorite music has been made with a Strat - I rescued this from a junk shop for £40 and after a bit of work think I've found the Strat for me:
1989 Vantage VIE-10 made in Korea by Samick - nothing spectacular to look at but its a great playing guitar and I like carve on the matching headstock.

My current strat, the cottagecorecaster. These EOB strats are amazing, but the plain white look was a little too boring for me.

Agreed on the EOB…
Roasted maple neck from a 70s Mod Vintera Strat on mine…
Also agree about the blandness… I’d love to black out the plastics, but finding a pickup cover for the sustainer’s gotta be impossible (if you can even swap the cover, probably have to replace the whole pickup and I’m not sure I’m that invested in the idea)…

I would either strip it and go walnut with tort, or all black like my 80's w/ the '75 pickguard assembly.fever606 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 12:00 pmAgreed on the EOB…
