Question, I'm looking at a guitar that I like, it has a really clean Candy Red finnish. I asked for a neck pocket picture this is what i got:

That’s an early one (dots and no binding).
I’m skeptical just from the color alone. I’d expect more yellowing of the clear coat resulting in a more coppery color.
Paint stick started in 1962 according to one article I found.
Edit: Pickguard also looks pretty bright and uniform in color for a guitar that old.
Also, a XII guard had a weird kind of squared off corner around the screw hole closest to the upper horn strap button. This one looks more rounded off there, like a detail that got lost by making a template from the original pickguard.

Yes obvious refin.

Big shout-out to the OP of this thread, and the super helpful PMs from members here - especially FEXII.
It helped me avoid a big mistake buying this guitar on eBay without realizing it's a refin. I had actually hit the BIN and thought I'd look on OSG right before sending payment...
I should have applied logic about the finish looking too pristine, plus asking for a neck pocket/cavity shot (doh!), but it's definitely a refinished XII.... and the seller refuses to acknowledge this fact. He even claims that he bought the guitar exactly like this in 1968 and it's sat in the case ever since (apart from the tuner swap)... the facts just don't add up.
Anyway, thanks again to the OSG and people having sharper eyes than I do, for this stuff!
