Here is my team-built 2020 closet classic '58. Sings except for some buzzes that maybe come from the saddles when I play in certain spots, haven't quite worked it out yet. Pickups are lovely.

Is the buzz audible when amplified or just unplugged?

If the first one, I personally would hate to have cs level instrument with something like that. I hope that it's something that is easy to fox. That guitar looks so amazing so it would be a shame that it wouldn't play perfect.

As to the buzzing... is it possible that someone had removed the strings and bridge at some point and put the bridge in its slots backwards?

When I first changed strings on my shell pink Jazzmaster I pulled the bridge off to look at it. Underneath, it had a 'B' on one end and a 'T' on the other: clearly it was intended to be placed back in the holes a certain way. I wonder if yours might've gotten reversed and the strings are vibrating against the edge of a slot.

Just a thought.

Thanks y'all. It's audible plugged in, but less noticeable than when unplugged for sure. I'll have to check the bridge next time I change the strings, so thanks for the suggestion there - it does seem to come from the slots, so I bet you're on the money.

the neck grain is different from my other MIA / non custom shop fenders. any luthiers know if this grain indicates quarter sawn or rift sawn? just curious.

the rosewood still needs some breaking in. rosewood never feels right to me until it has a moderate amount of finger gunk embedded in it.

Great advice, thanks! I restrung my Jazzmaster and for sure I took the bridge off, but I don't remember noticing the "T" and "B" (Treble and Bass?) under the bridge - I'll take a look!

Yes, treble and bass. Mine was a very early RSD bridge. Not sure why somebody wrote T and B on it, but I am happy it's there. I wrote it in sharpie on my blue one when I first changed the strings.

Here is mine. Ordered and arrived in 2008. Masterbuilt by Dennis Galuszka. It has been played, modded, dinged, and chipped. My main requests were: 1)the 'green' Sherwood green and not the more 'faded' version. 2)Blocks and binding on a flamed maple neck. 3)Vintage radius/62 shapes.

I have other guitars that I really love, but this is the one I'd grab in all those imagined scenarios. Before it arrived I was already mainly playing Jaguars. This guitar has become the alpha and omega. It took more than a year for me to fully realize just how perfect it was for me. It makes me hypothesize that the people that didn't 'get along' with their custom-ordered Fenders were too impatient, or they didn't know what they wanted.

That is fantastic! Very similar to a certain Mr Frusciante's '66. I'm quite a fan of the white undercoat under metallics. I used to own a very battered '65 CAR with green nitrate guard. Stupidly sold it. That had both silver, gold and white undercoats to make up the CAR, there was also some pale yellow visible which I assume was grain filler?

It makes more sense for them to mean Treble and Bass than, say, Top and Bottom (which would have matched the original orientation, maybe?).
