No idea, but there are even differences between hand-painted ones. Some sound better than others.
Not what I wanted to hear. It's like how all PAFs are different or all tweed deluxes. Why can't it be simple?

Ok, thanks.
It is kinda simple. If you want one, and have the chance to play a few at you local store, pick the one that sounds best or you can afford, whatever comes first.
But if you just want to try one out at home, buy a used Vexter.

Tis the nature of germanium transistors. The same one can even sound different depending on the temperature of the room! :derp:
Yup. This is just the way it is.

If only there was another more stable semiconductor element we could use...

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to choose to remain ignorant of this field. My brain is already too full.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

I've had four early ones during the past 18 years...all pre-2001. They all do sound slightly different IME. Having said that, they all still sound like Fuzz Factories. :)

A the moment I have a 2000 one, and i have two good friends that have 2000 ones too, and two of them sound very alike, the other sounds a bit different...this is going from memory.

Not entirely sure if you're serious, but there is! Silicon. ;)

You don't need to overthink it. Just riff.

As a fuzz junkie I've def had my eye on a Fuzz Factory for years and never pulled the trigger. This thing about variations sounds a lot like the different iterations of Big Muff, etc. I'm going to keep that in mind cause I feel the pull of getting one growing all the time. I've had a ton of muffs over the years and it's pretty interesting to me how radically different they all sound/sounded from each other. One of the ones that everyone shits on all the time - the modern NYC variant - was one of the very best fuzzes I ever owned.

The fuzz factory is, essentially, a circuit-bent germanium fuzz face.

“Gate” and “Stab” let you control things you normally wouldn’t be allowed to control—like transistor bias.
