Marauder II Project Blood Moon Finished Page 3.

Post by HNB » Sat Oct 10, 2020 4:26 pm

I have a Marauder II body coming in that I am going to work on. (Jazzy style tremolo.) I will be ordering Faction plates with the slider switches vs rockers since those are easier to find and I want them in red anyways. I am going to use Lace pickups or mini humbuckers and don't really care for out of phase options so I came up with this idea of using a Jaguar bass cut and a series switch for middle and bridge. (If I go with Lace to make a bridge humbucker.) Did I wire it right? (I know the switch isn't physically where it would go. I just visually plopped it where it fit in the image.) The rhythm circuit is unchanged and the kill switch by the jack is also unchanged. I basically only changed the two switches by the three on switches from phase reversals. If I do go with mini humbuckers, I will keep one phase switch for the middle pickup and the bass cut switch. Let me know if my wiring checks out like I think it does.

It looks right to me, but you will have a dead spot: if you have the bridge and middle in series, the middle pickup switch is on and bridge pickup switch is off, you won't get any sound. That said, with sliders, I imagine that to be less of an issue than with blade switches...

Already got to spraying some white on. I will sand it lightly a bit later before I do more coats. :)

Glad it arrived safely!

It was made by forumite Sonichris who works for Texas Toast but I'm not sure if this counts as TT-branded. I'm glad to see it being used - I bought it planning to build a dark green Marauder, and then a few weeks later Sonichris listed his fully finished dark green Marauder on the board and I pounced on it.

I can't wait to see it with all the red pickups and switches!

What are you doing for the rollers? Is there a way to get those in red as well, or are you going with black or white?

You may have answered this in a previous build thread, so apologies for any double-up, but where do you get your neck plates done?

I might paint them red. The paint would likely wear off but honestly I never have used the roller wheels. I tend to keep that full up so it might be ok. :)

Sonicchris is making me a white pickguard for this. :)

I get them on ebay from this seller. Always have done a great job for me. :) (No affiliation.)

I finished the white and started spraying the matte clear over it. :) I don't think I will do a ton of clear. It isn't like I will be wetsanding it or anything. Maybe four or five coats. :)

Other parts are on the way. :) Got a "mooncaster" neck from Warmoth. Not the same, but I am not really going for 100% authentic anyways. :D Close enough for me. I plan on painting the "swoosh" part red. :)

Should I use normal string trees or put in one of those bar type ones Marauders had?

I'd go with normal ones, it's a smaller detail than the vibrato type and pickups so there's no need to aim for vintage accuracy IMO.

Strap buttons and shielding paint are going on. :) I kinda don't need it with Lace pickups since they are noiseless, but I figure whatever. LOL

Shielding is done and I installed the bridge cups and thimbles for my Mustang bridge.
