Zoom MS-70CDR

Post by peterherman » Tue Sep 29, 2020 10:08 am

Grabbed one off eBay to try to dial in the Soft Focus sound in a pedalboard friendly way. I know they're somewhat popular around these parts. I found a TGP thread with two different recipes for the patch. The first doesn't sound too much like it. Anyone have good results with trying to get the Slowdive Sound or other Gotta Try It patches to recommend?

do you know about the hack to get all the sounds of every Multi-stomp and other Zoom fx?

I totally looked over the Multi-stomp pedals, big box stores in my city marketed them to guitar-n00bs wanting to go beyond a DS-1 or whatever.
Now I can't find them in stores or used anywhere locally.

I think I had seen something about hacking the pedal in that way, but it looks like the manager is PC-only.

Hey I got one of these recently (MS-50G) and really like it for super lush sounds and digital weirdness. There is an active subreddit (r/zoommultistomp/), you could ask there.

The megathreads are pinned with lots of patches. I'm pleasantly surprised by how good this pedal is.

Yeah, the secret is to tweak it to taste (or find other setups). The default patches are a little too "cliché" sounding.

I have one and I love it. it's llike having a pedalboard into a single stompbox, and the sounds are really good!
I did AB-tested few of the efftecs with the original counterparts (Strymon delays and Eventide Reverb), and these are really close, not as high-end and detailed as the originals, but nobody would notice in a live setup!

I've been really curious about these for a long time, just wish midi switching was easier to achieve. Next time I see a cheap one used I may just scoop it up anyway.

It'd be nice if MIDI were easier, but it's an option at least.

It's the single best pedal out there IMO, I own two and the fact that effects can be loaded on or off and shared with other multistomps makes them a feasible one pedal solution for a lot of people.
This is an excellent rectangle

i've looked at this for vocal processing. Think it would be good for that? how are the newer zoom multi-fx, do they contain similar patches?

I can't speak to the newer stuff, really, or what their patches are like. I can say that every patch that's made for this form factor, the multistomp series, is compatible with the entire multistomp range and can be imported and exported to each other using a PC program.

As good as this pedal sounds, it's very popular with synth players. It probably would do just fine on vocals in a conventional sense with the compression and reverb it has, and maybe the pitch shifting and harmonist settings. But if you wanna get way out there, this is probably a sure bet.

I just did a small demo video about my original ambient/drone patches, after years this is still a very good pedal.

Perhaps would be useful if it were in the Gxn set of controls. But other places tell me no, these new ones are just their continued multi-fx they've done since 90s (i remember my gfx-707 lol). Multistomp looks like a whole different type of thing.

Thanks, sounds really good! Definitely trying some of those settings out!
