He and I made a trade and the guitar arrived today. It is in excellent original shape as far as I can tell. It even came with the hard case and original 1984 receipt. Pretty cool! The neck profile is really awesome. Pickups sound good. The bridge is a tad bright, but I love the neck and middle pickup sounds. Here are pictures.

That's interesting, that's almost the exact price that my MIM Squier Fat Strat cost in 1998. Taking inflation into account, that made the MIJ Squier about 50% more expensive than the MIM one 14 years later (about $960 vs $660 in 2020 dollars).
