Champage Sparkle Jag build

Post by JamesSGBrown » Tue Sep 15, 2020 2:51 am

Right, after comtemplating this for an absolute age I am going for it. With the help of Rexter and some sweet shit I'll be picking up all over. Inspired by sparkle jets:

Going after this but with possibly different pups:

I've played my Marr Jag incessently since getting in in '16. I adore it absolutely- but as the only player in a 3 piece I need something slightly beefier. Having played a shit ton of guitars in my time (I work in a shop) I know what I want- just a beefier sounding Jag, like the lovechild of my Esquire and '54 P90 LP. But I still want a spanky neck pickup sound, like a strat (the best neck pup sound was my old '72 Musicmaster, I think it was just a late 60's strat pickup in there?). So pickup options will have me obsessing for a bit. All help appreciated

First bit of the puzzle- found this lurking in the back of the shop- a '71 Mustang neck that someone did a terrible decal replacement on. What the hell? But the neck is good, just needs frets. Headstock to be refinished anyhow.

So I'll be commissioning Rexter to do the body next week, and slowly pickup up pieces. I'm thinking of a 3 way, LP style toggle on lower horn, and a tone-bypass toggle on the upper horn ala Neil Young....

This is going to be great, Rexter did my Jazzmaster build and I couldn't be happier with it! http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... eck+Guitar

Ordered a bunch of parts today- I believe Rexter is now starting on the body so I shall update accordingly!

From the links it looks like they're embedded from Facebook.

If I wasn't matching the headstock I'd probably leave it as is purely because it is SO dumb:

It'll be akin to this, but Firebird pickups, 3 way toggle on lower plate and 2-way control-bypass switch on the upper bout

And this is the reference guitar for the shade and flake size I want:

That sounds awesome. Champagne sparkle is more gold/copper IMO. Those look more burgandy mist-esque. Great either way though.

Ad blockers are often the problem, but in this case I think the problem is that the image URLs have expired. Facebook includes a "signature" parameter in many of their image URLs that expires after a few days, so if you try to load those images after the signature has expired, the image won't load.

They likely do this so that if they need to take any content down, they can mark the signature as invalid, so the image won't load anymore. That, and they want you to link people to Facebook itself rather than just using them to host the images.

This can get kinda tricky to debug because if you viewed the images while the signature was still valid, then the images will be cached on your computer and you'll still be able to see them even though the image URL doesn't work anymore. That's why sometimes some forumites can see certain images while other forumites can't.

Anyway. I'm just sad I can't see those pretty photos anymore. 😢

It seems the shade is all over the shop- but the one I want is definitely burgundy mist in essence, just jazzed up!

I put in the order for a Champagne Sparkle Jazzmaster (Jon already told me he had another order in the same colour). So I'll be building it's sibbling soon. :D :-*

Fun fact: I'll be using a Coronado neck with a headstock converted to a telecaster and a 70's telecaster logo. So if you keep the logo they'll be twins. :w00t:

I used this image as a reference for the colour, because I was looking for Burgundy Mist sparkle:

Image

I think Jon said he'll be shooting it over Burgundy mist right? I know Champagne Sparkle varies but I think we want the same thing.

(Sorry if I'm hijacking your post but how often do you find two people building a "Burgundy Mist" sparkle offset at the same time)

I literally just finished my build this past weekend. I could have gone a little heavier on the flake, but was trying to get a more vintage vibe out of it. First time using metal flake too.
