Sounds great. Nice bass sound also.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I feel like you can get that blues tone on just about any guitar if you have a halfway decent amp (or amp modeler). The obvious reason why you don't see too many offsets in blues world is do to the conservative nature of many (but not all) of its devotees.

Re: Blues on a FENDER MUSTANG
Certainly wasn't the case when blues was a modern and emerging genre. Lots of trailblazers who used incredibly unpopular oddball guitars at the time, like Albert King.
And while he didn't play blues exclusively, there was some great stuff from the incomparable Bo Diddley.
Later torchbearers still used some pretty unpopular guitars.
Unfortunately, blues has since been sucked into a black hole, being torn apart and stretched thin over what feels like an impossibly long time scale to an outside observer due to relativistic time dilation.
My feeling about blues as a genre in the last half-century or so:

Jimmy Dawkins, another case in point for playing blues on something different.
Dave Alvin played a Mustang early on in The Blasters also.

A little secret might be that electric guitars don't really sound all that different.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Right. So it becomes all about aesthetics. You have the people that go for the 'different' shapes and all those basic types that only go for the 4 standard guitars of classic R&B. (Strat, Tele, Gibson 335, and Les Paul).
Sometimes (as a person who has always been fascinated with the aesthetics of just about all material purchases) it really bugs me how all of the "I don't care about looks" people actually do care, but just in a different manner. You could play blues with the pointiest of the the pointy BC Rich, Jackson, ESP, etc. guitars and sonically be fine, but I don't think too many people in your standard blues fan audience would be too into it.

Re: Blues on a FENDER MUSTANG
I guess there is that. I was going to say that what difference there is with electric guitars is up to us to know about since the audience doesn't give a shit about any of that, but your point is pretty apt... if you show up at the heavy metal show with a Telecaster you done fucked up, and if you went to an open mic blues night with a seven string JEM with the monkey grip and no fedora you similarly have a problem.Jaguar018 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 8:28 amRight. I guess that's the problem with branding, though... and no matter what I claim about guitars sounding pretty similar in the end I still found the time to have over a dozen of the things.
Deep down I know I could just have any one of them and do everything I do on it, though. I will tell you that but not Mrs. Larry.

Sounds great in jazz as well. John McLaughlin used either a DuoSonic II or a Mustang for Bitch's Brew by Miles Davis.Mr_Martin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 4:31 amMustangs sounds great for blues:

He says, he can't remember whether it had a vibrato or not, so it could have been either, as he owned one of each at the time.
I can't find any photos from that session to confirm which model it was.
Edit: Japanese SRV-esque legend Char used Mustangs exclusively for years, although he has used Strats as of late.
