Creamsicle: Converting Player Jag to Real Jag
had all spare parts to assemble a jaguar but a body and neck. snagged a MIM in Capri Orange for a decent price.
parts list: original 60s mute, AVRI vibrato, AVRI plates, switchcraft switches and jack, CTS pots, MIM player body, squier jag pickups (for now. neck is fine, bridge is overwound and not good) and fender strap pins with black felts.
Jan 7 edit: halfway done. need a neck, some woodwork, shielding, and final wiring. Broke a screw testing the mute assembly will need to extract and fill, but super excited to have the mute in here.
Jan 22 edit: assembled with USA jag neck on page 4! almost fully complete, waiting on conversion bushings. can't believe it's been almost a month.

Re: spare parts jaguar!
Nice! What neck are you going to be putting on it?

Re: spare parts jaguar!
undecided. part of me wants a GOOD neck for a change. we are locked down so i can't spray any finish on a custom or have a tech do fretwork. something like a MIM neck would be the easiest and cheapest, though.
considering musikraft but I have no idea what neck shape to go for. then i need a decal & finish blah blah blah...
really want dots and binding and a darker rosewood. pau ferro is too orange for this body.

all that's left is a neck, and mounting screws for the vibrato. can't wait for the body to arrive so I can get it populated and woodwork started.

I wanted the duo sonic something fierce when it came out. I'm pretty excited.

I love that color too. Excited to see this one finished. I'm interested to see where the other two bridges will go.

edit: i was wrong, he has a wildwood thinline in orange with tv jones. also stunning looking, but capri seems a slight shade lighter.

one is from my bass vi (now a staytrem), the other is from my lacquer JM (now a mustang.) I like the mustang bridge better so they're just hanging out. considering adding a vibrato to my baritone JM and installing one of those bridges.

Re: Creamsicle: spare parts jaguar!
thanks! hoping the body accepts the classic jag chrome plates without too much fanfare (rhythm circuit needs routing, pickup selector plate may need some more wood to bolt to. pickups may get some shim support).
I wanted it tahitian coral eventually, but the more I look around my house the more I realize I love this shade of orange (so many little furniture details in this color I forgot about).
so maybe i'll save the coral for a xii...

Re: Creamsicle: spare parts jaguar!
found my vibrato. the plate is damaged so I ordered a new one. see below for updates. need access to a router for rhythm circuit. will wire up without it for now.

Re: Creamsicle: spare parts jaguar!
HERE WE GO. Here's what is needed to turn a player jaguar to a real jaguar:
Rout the rhythm control cavity somewhat thusly (gold lines) or use a Jag template; rout or dremel for bass side of bridge pickup that touches the body; add mute plunger and screws; fill and re-drill pickguard screws; fill and rout pickup cavities OR add 5mm spacers underneath the pickups and add some front and rear support to keep the pickup in its place within the pickguard hole.
