Oliver Orbital Power Projector

Post by Scout » Thu Dec 31, 2020 5:30 pm

Took this down to the bench today for a little check-up. Deep
cleaned everything and sprayed the pots and jacks.
Swampy sound less like a Leslie than the spinning horn
would lead one to believe.
I will forever be an analog man.

I have thought of making a spinning horn from the motor and guts of a broken phonograph. That driver mechanism looks like it’s pretty much the same idea.

There’s not much inside the unit, it does have a
potentiometer and a rheostat , a transistor and a
few resistors . The motor is noisy but the sound is
lofi and warbley, it is cool.

Yes, Jess Oliver designed. Main designer for Ampeg back in the day.
