NGD 1990 Epiphone Casino
Way back in the day I wanted to get a Casino as a "do it all" guitar, but being dumb I bought a Sheraton, which was a beautiful instrument but wasn't what I was after. Skip forward 12 years and the Sheraton is long gone, my collection is full of Fenders and copies, but I still haven't scratched that itch. After looking around (and being fairly shocked by current prices) I tracked one down in Japan which came with a case for less than a lot of new Chinese ones are going for now. After thinking it might have been MIJ by Terada, the mahogany neck and scarf joint in the headstock have convinced me it's MIK by Peerless, even though the serial number is a weird six digit which indicates Japan rather than Korea. I think it's probably an early one just after they switched manufacture. Anyway it's a really great guitar, and after I went after all the rattles and buzzes with a soldering iron and clear nail varnish, it plays beautifully. I think it looks pretty good too.

Looks wonderful! The grain on the back is awesome, and that neck looks really nice.

oh man that's so nice. The amount of age and yellowing on that finish is perfect.
I had a more recent natural casino and i found it looked so sterile and lifeless compared to the older Korean ones. you couldn't even see the binding on mine.
Yours is a 10 out of 10.

Beautiful guitar!
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Thanks all! The camera goosed the richness of the colour a bit, but it sure is nice compared to a lot of the later ones I've seen. I'm pretty sure it has some age, the tuners had been replaced and the bridge pickup had broken away from the cover, so that was a fun job to fix. The great thing is how nice it sounds acoustically, I certainly didn't get that with the Sheraton. Maybe I'll look at changing the pickups one day but for now I'm very happy.

Congrats on the Casino! That’s great looking, especially work that finish and the parallelogram style inlays.

That is a real beauty! You're going to get years of fun out of that one.
