I’m familiar with black napkins, one of my favorites also, but I’ll have to check out black page.

I think I’m most fascinated by the mind that would come up with the music he did
for as long as he did. I almost believe that his aversion to drugs prolonged his
spark of creativity or perhaps it’s entirely inborn, either way his music is undeniably
original and worthy of more attention than it ever got.

As far as his lyrics go, yeah some are sleazy and sexist, some are topical , some are comical
but who else could have written them but Frank himself?

This is what really fascinated me as well. If it was just the music, I wouldn't have maybe dug as deep.
This guy seemed a bit conservative, yet he was so 'far out', and all without doing drugs or alcohol. He was no conformist either.
How does a sober mind come up with concepts like the Baby Snakes film?
He was a pretty good satirist, although is a love of satire enough to make someone so out there?

I sometimes think his youth growing up as a close buddy of Fred Van Vleet (Capt Beefheart), had influenced him a ton.
It would love to be a fly on the wall to hear their musings, as they were living in the desert at the time, and were likely bored out of their minds.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

You took all the mystery out of it.

I do like my 2/9 chords with the occasional 6 thrown in.

I really just thought it was nice seeing Ruth Underwood. A lot of those Mothers never really got to shine all that much out of Zappa's shadow, you know?

I mean he overdubbed the bass on the 80's reissue of We're Only In It For The Money and all.

It was nice seeing Ruth Underwood.

It’s funny, I have certain intervals that I really like
and use in my music and don’t always recognize them
when I hear them in a different context but if I dig into
something like Zappa I find them there.

Thanks for posting. Haven't seen that clip in a while.
Yea, she is a genius musician, however those vibes and xylophones are the one thing that made some Zappa sound really cheesy at times. For me, at least.

Same here. I also have a bad addiction to major 7s and dominant 7 flat 5s, which I find hard to stop using. They work so well in so many places.

MF DOOM and Madlib used samples from "Sleeping in a Jar" by Mothers of Invention on their track "Meat Grinder".

Check this clip of Frank talking about stuff.
