Paying a little extra for a rare finish you like on an AV65 is totally justifiable. And I disagree with you about potentially losing money - unless you have to flip it really fast or utterly destroy the thing condition-wise, I think you'll always find a buyer willing to pay what you did. New and used Fender prices have been creeping ever upwards and there will never be more AV65s coming onto the market.
Of course, resale only matters if you sell it. If you've the guitar, it's obviously worth it, and IBM is a gorgeous colour on a jag. Congrats!

I spent just under that in CAD for my IBM AV65 Jaguar and it was worth every penny!

Thanks! I have a hard time seeing blue in it like this is 100% a silver guitar but that could just be because of the tales from the crypt lighting in my room

Very lovely. Almost tempted to offer my genuine 66 IBM Jag in exchange for it. Great great colour.

Re: NGD - AV65 Jaguar in Ice Blue Metallic
super cool!
that's my top choice in a new Jag! all that chrome on a metallic finish
i drive a '63 Thunderbird, you see...
i have a Firemist Silver AV65 Jazzmaster, and i find it bluer than silver.
and yes, i like that IBM cuz it's more silver than blue!
was into finding an IBM JM with matching headstock, but it never happened.
either way, they are pretty impressive. i think i paid $1900 new for mine, from waiting for a bit of a deal to come up. i caught one of the very last new ones.
even though i don't play it a lot (#3 behind my 1959 Jazzy and a superfine custom Doheny), mine looks more beat than yours. these finishes seem designed to relic themselves from any kind of contact! it doesn't matter if you find a NOS or used one, if you gig it for a year, it will look used from less than 5 feet away. i would be just as happy with one in your condition for that price.
i know it feels like a lot of dough! that's the most i've ever paid for a guitar, too. that's a very cool guitar and i think it will always be desirable.
maybe just don't do to yours what i did to mine

I just got $3200 CAD total in cash/trade for my stock MIJ Mascis JM, the Canadian Fender market is absolutely off the rails, I don't even have words to describe it.Powdered Toast Man wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 9:11 amI don't understand what is going on in the market at the moment. There's a guy in Montreal asking $3150 for a 2013 AV65 in sunburst. WTF?
As for this IBM Jag, congrats, it's gorgeous. Right up there with sherwood, LPB and CFM as the nicest colours I've ever seen on a Jag.

The market up here seems insane. Seriously considering listing my Firemist Silver AV65 Jazzmaster for a high price and seeing what happens.

Re: NGD - AV65 Jaguar in Ice Blue Metallic
That's what I did with my Mascis, just to see what would happen. I priced it just under the cheapest Reverb listing price and didn't even particularly want to part with it, but I just thought to myself, "As much as I like this guitar, I'd never have even considered buying it for this price, so if that's what I get, I can easily find something I like just as much for less money." I expected it to take months to sell if it even sold at all, but a couple of weeks later I had a cash/trade offer I couldn't refuse.

I'm thinking it has to do with the border being closed for such a long period of time. All that cross-border shopping is gone. And even those of us who would have normally used a parcel service for those USA only sellers haven't been able to do that because you can't drive across and pick up any packages. Combine that with so few USA sellers willing to ship to Canada, we're kind of in our own pricing bubble here. With scarcity comes higher listing prices. The AV65 JM that I mentioned - the seller even mentions in their listing that there's none other available in the market. And he's right. Do a search on both Kijiji and Reverb and there isn't another AV65 Jazzmaster available for sale in the entire country.
