Hi. I have some question about my 1969 JM.

Discussion of vintage Jazzmasters, Jaguars, Bass VIs, Electric XIIs and any other offset-waist instruments.

Hi. NGD :D
I got 1969 JM few day ago.

Grover F tuner installed,
Seller said, it is quite rare guitar, and It is also the clue about made in 68-69.
I research serial number, result was '68-69' (Serial number is '257XXX' )

Here is my question.
I checked neck heel but It date is quite uncertain, I can't recognize neck date.
It seems, 「1X / FEB / XX / B」 to me.

I want to know when made it is.
Not a 68-69, specific year.
How about you guys opinion?

Have a nice day ;D

pat is the expert on 70's offsets but it all looks pretty legit. block inlays, very typical tort of the time, correct decal

the burst looks a wee bit off but i've seen a few jazzmasters with a slightly off burst from factory.

This grovers can be 100% original. They are the fender kind which only came on fender guitars - as far as I know. But in the same time this is a rare sight. The decal looks legit in placement and the tortoise matches others from that time period. All I can say is that those witchhats look very yellow. Which makes me think it has been in its case most of its life or played in smokey bars. (Or the knobs are repro’s)

But its an extremely lovely guitar! I wouldn’t worry too much about originality because it looks like the real deal from here. Probably worth to check the electronics though.

I always feel that the 68-69’s look like they tried to implement new design features without matching a 100% - in a good way.

I used to own a Jazzy just like that, with Grovers ( I call them "smoker's teeth") and all.
Can't help you with the neck stamp but to me it looks legit. BUT maybe it's the pic, but is the body really so clean and shiny as it looks? That seems kinda weird because the neck wood looks pretty worn and weathered.

Post more pics please, but yes, these tuners were used ~68-70 or so, first on Coronados, then the rest on Jazzmasters.
I absolutely loved mine but traded it for a Fender Maverick. :-*

I think camera and brightness is affected burst color. here is new picture :?

We that all looks 100% fine to me, wonderful guitar!
The 1966 pot is also normal, they used them up into the early 70s.

All legit. :-*

much better. that looks way more accurate. those late 60's bursts are really reliant on a good light to get photographed. i'd say it looks legit.
