NGD: beater 1967 Hagström Viking
Well actually I picked this one up a couple days before 2020 ended. Saw it in the local ads with "make offer - needs work" and no price. I liked the look but was in no need for another guitar project, so I low-balled and he responded a couple days later and said ok!
It has been sanded (over-sanded in parts) and clear coated years ago - the body only. The neck was mostly de-finished with some black parts/spots left.
Tuners changed to old Schallers (which I usually prefer) and it came in an ancient, probably original (?) cheapo hardcase.
I super glued the binding back on, cleaned and rehydrated the fretboard and put fresh strings on. And now I love it!!!
Pickups are loud and chimey, kinda Rickenbacker-ish, and the neck is very very (pencil) thin, but fits my hands like a glove.
Now that was a very unexpected and nice surprise!
I'd only like to find a matching pickguard for it.
The wood has a nice 3-D kinda effect, yet I'm considering maybe having it refinished it in Sherwood Green or old LPB or so, to give it a Coronado kinda vibe.
Anyone else here own and/or like these?
I think Hags are (still) kinda hidden gems, especially these Vikings! (PSSST)

I’ve always been intrigued by these. I think Sherwood green would look great on it. But, I also kindof like it as is. I love the small feeling of hagstrom necks.
Congrats!

Ho crap, you've sold the Framus Sorrento to me because you found the body huge on you, I was hopping the same thing would happen with that one

I’ve got a Hagstrom 1 with the skinnnnny neck. Great guitar and underrated. There was a Viking
for sale around me but the seller wanted too much, looks like a sweet find.

I actually dig it in the 'natural' finish it has now. Real 70s vibe.

Guys in a Hagström group confirmed it's a 1967 model. Yeah for now I might leave it as is.

Nice score! And interesting to see how early Vikings bodies look without finish.
I am owning a Viking I from 1965 which I got from a friends dad. In the 90's, as kids (aged 12 or so, not older) we were over at my friends house and his dad showed me his old guitar. It was a year after I started playing so I showed interest and asked for a price . I finally got it as a gift (my friends dad was a bit drunk that day). I've owned it ever since. It was not playable when I got it but we got that fixed by a luthier (which was not easy at that time, before the internet and so).
The case is an original Hagstrom Viking reissue which I got 3 years ago 2nd hand via eBay Kleinanzeigen

Wow! That is lovely!
I had one of the reissues and sold it two years ago as I basically never played it since I really got into my Jag - but it had the fiercest pickups I ever had!
I really do like their regular 3/3 headstock more than I like Gibson‘s - and they had a spikey one that I really hate... but that headstock looks real classy! Yes, true Coronado vibes! It looks cool as is - but I‘d say go for the refin!
