My Bloody Jazzmaster

Post by HNB » Tue Jan 12, 2021 11:18 am

I was inspired quite a bit by that dark dark candy apple red Jazzmaster build thread. You can kind of tell since I used dark red with my lace Jazzmaster project. While that is curing, I found a TVL Oxblood Jazzmaster body for sale and picked it up. I ordered antiquity 1's for it along with the new Fender US 52mm Mustang bridge and an AVRI guard with metal shield. I wanted to try wiring the antiquity 1's in series, so I ditched the upper rollers and used that switch. It came together really fast because all the parts were finished so once everything arrived yesterday I was able to put it all together yesterday and today. I am really happy with it. It sounds wonderful too. The series option is way cooler to me than the bassy rollers. I know it isn't traditional, but I can see that being of use. I did a demo of it that is uploading, but here are pictures. :D

Sorry for the fingerprints....

Oh by the way, I picked the darker tort to go with the darker red. I thought if I went with a brighter red tort that it would look funky against the darker cherry like red.

nice! Looks great! I was wondering about doing this, the TVL body pops up every now and again for some reason so I should really take advantage of that

Excellent job! Glad my thread inspired you. I’m also glad you posted that vid to give me an idea of what the lowered pot values sound like on the Antiquity 1s. What amp were you using?

I ended up going 250k for the lead but converting the rhythm to 1meg volume for bridge and neck. I also love the way yours sounded in series. That’s a good idea. You have yourself a quality Jazzmaster right there. Love it

Looks and sounds great! I've thought about buying a TVL neck to achieve B&B, but not sure how easy it would be to refinish. Probably spraying over the urethane is the best route.

I was using my Marshall 1959 4 Hole clone. :D I had bass, mids, and treble with the knobs pointing at 3 o clock. I was using the normal circuit, not the bright one. :)

You are going to have an awesome Jazzmaster. That thread turned me around on red. I have always liked it, but not on guitars. I end up selling my fiesta and car guitars. I really like this oxblood one. (Which looks like the red on that Jazzmaster.) :D

I am glad the demo was useful. I plan to do this mod on two more Jazzmasters. One with Antiquity II's and I might get another set of Antiquity I's and use 1meg pots to get a brighter series option. :D

Spraying over would probably be easiest. You could sand it down, but Fender's paint layers are REALLY thick. It takes awhile and makes a big mess. LOL

Rebirth. Rio wanted the neck from this to paint for his black Jazzmaster I put together for him so that left this without a body. I decided to use my bound neck I had around and I am really happy with the look. New neck plate also. :D Kluson tuners and bone nut. :D
