Need some advice
I have been a Player for many years. Never could afford a Jazzmaster growing up. Recently built a Partsmaster and am in love with its Voice/Tone. Is there an effect or group of effects, or even a method you can share where in your opinion you could make a Jazzmaster sound even more JAZZMASTER. Bigger, richer, wider tone etc. I have tried some stereo delays with very short time settings, also reverbs too. But I figured there is so much knowledge and experience here that this is where to ask. Thanks in advance!!

Re: Neeed some advice
TC Mimiq -> a bright and dark amp -> stereo verb that's really big but with a really short decay -> hard pan left/right
Honestly that's not even just a JM thing, run anything into that and it'll sound massive. I was just saying on another forum where some guy was asking about using a piezo that doing this setup for the magnetic pickups (with plenty of gain) and running all your delay/verb/modulation centered off the piezo sounds and feels, through a nice set of speakers, like being curbstomped by a notably large rhinoceros.
IMO the JM is great because it sounds huge without hogging the midrange in a mix, so you can do crazy nonsense like this and still have something that's usable in an actual recording.

High powered Fender amp (Showman, Dual Showman, Twin Reverb, Vibrosonic Reverb) with the volume turned up.

Oh I have been making it LOUD. Stereo rig Crown DC300 into 4, 4x10 columns spaced ten feet apart and three feet of the ground. BIG and Loud is easy. I gotta try the Mimic ideas and the hard pan short delays. Thanks for that!!

Re: Neeed some advice
Jazzmasters as a rule are a little mid scooped. I find that a Klone is brings out mids in a pretty flattering way. I have an Archer and a clean mid boost on my board.
Compression in small doses can be nice. Not really my thing, but worth trying if you like a cleaner tone.
The rhythm circuit can be great with a gnarly fuzz.
Jazzmaster + tremolo = instant spy movie soundtrack.
I tend to prefer darker reverb with a JM. All of the overtones a JM produces can make a bright reverb pretty shrill.
Same with delays. Try an analog or tape style delay or otherwise darken up the repeats.

.
Do like on a Strat ... get a fuzz pedal and roll the guitar volume back to clean up or just be a little hairy.
Joyo American Sound pedal gets all the Fender amp tones with some dialing, run it into a clean amp/PA.

Re: Need some advice
More good information, Thanks!! Would a multi band EQ pedal allow the best overtone range to be increased?? Or are they not made for that. Also I thought I might bi-amp and see if that can make the clean tones seem MORE. Along these lines, does a thin line semi-hollow body add harmonics to what you hear? And if so, what about a full depth hollow body size with all Jazzmaster hardware, bridge, vibrato, pickups etc.

Re: Need some advice
Crank up a small amp with trem and spring reverb. Play a d and E maj chord. Get a real mean looking stank face going. Incite the fear of mass violence with only two chords.
Man, Link Wray was such a baddass.
Turn the volume down with this exact setting and you have every spy movie theme.
* I know he used a Yamaha SG, but the Jazzmaster does it just as well.

Re: Need some advice
There are a whole bunch of “always on” overdrive pedals out there that help make a jazzmaster sound bigger and fuller, especially if you can’t turn an amp up to the level that accomplishes the same thing. I particularly like a Klon or EP Booster at unity for such a task.

Re: Need some advice
I would not use a compressor (but I would never recommend a compressor I think, so I might be biased here). I would go with klon-style pedal. I'm sure you can find one relatively cheap to try.redchapterjubilee wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 4:11 amThere are a whole bunch of “always on” overdrive pedals out there that help make a jazzmaster sound bigger and fuller, especially if you can’t turn an amp up to the level that accomplishes the same thing. Re: Need some advice
I find that Jazzmasters respond particularly well to compression. That's why they sound so great on clean Fenders as you turn them up - they start to compress and deemphasize the sharp attack resulting from those 1M pots and low-inductance pickups.
For years, I used a Humphrey Audio modded Boss compressor as the first box on my pedalboard, because it really made my Jazzmaster come alive. The mod was essentially for a longer attack so that things didn't sound quite so squashed. Applied judiciously, it just gave me more of everything I loved about my Jazzmaster.

Re: Need some advice
I don’t have the playing style that seems to benefit from compressor pedals. I’m a drummer turned guitarist and I tend to play guitar like a drum. Bang bang bang. A good always on overdrive is something I do benefit from. Klone, Timmy, EP Booster, treble booster with the guitar volume rolled down, etc. that sort of thing.

Re: Need some advice
Yeh there are number ways to do it, boosters may add harmonics so do things to the attack too, like the SHO is almost an exciter pedal.redchapterjubilee wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 4:11 amThere are a whole bunch of “always on” overdrive pedals out there that help make a jazzmaster sound bigger and fuller, especially if you can’t turn an amp up to the level that accomplishes the same thing. Comps are great for smashing strings yet not wanting audible drive, i used to have a pigtronix that was unusual, like a drive pedal's response but the dirt was absent. Other traditional ones may make the sound spikier as slower attack responses. Only sold as it was on the adsr philosopher king thing and too big too much, but a few pedals have it as a standalone.
