FLOYD! FLOYD! FLOYD! FLOYD!
Seriously though, nobody would go through the trouble of putting in a Floyd, then replacing that with a six-screw trem, if it wasn't a great player. If you don't wanna deal with the locking nut, go for the non-fine-tuner variant like the Guthrie Govan signature, those are also great and you can keep them decked if you're not a huge trem person.

That's dynamite. I'd maybe look at plugging those holes on the back of the neck, but only if there was something amiss structurally or it interfered with my playing. Otherwise, I'd keep it as is. You can't buy mojo like that this has.

Some day I will have built up the courage. Today is not that day...
I think you might be right. Even with strings that had probably been left on there for 10 years, it felt vibey. Really curious what some new frets and nut will do to it!HarlowTheFish wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 1:06 pmFLOYD! FLOYD! FLOYD! FLOYD!

Yeah, the holes will be plugged. They are so close to the headstock that you don't feel them when playing, and the neck is thick enough that I'm sure they do little to affect its structural integrity. But I also feel like the guitar deserves a little bit more restoration work. It will still carry the signs of having survived some rather invasive modifications, but I think getting that sorted will just make it feel even more enjoyable to pick up. And then later generations can complain about how millienials obsessed with restoring things based on some misdirected nostalgia for/fetishization of 1960s and early 70s aesthetics and consumer culture.

Things are coming in and going out at an unprecedented pace at the moment, but it is hard to resist when new cool stuff pops up all the time. Found this amp yesterday that I feel will make up a pretty good rig together with the Thinline. 1971 (mostly at least, I find trying to date these things quite difficult) Super Reverb that is stock as far as I can tell and has been mostly in storage since the 1980s. With the small amp craze going on, these seem like such a good deal (until you get evicted, I guess).

Definitely not mint but fairly clean. Only problem is you can't really go past 2 on the volume knob, and all the good stuff is supposed to be beyond 6 haha. But it still sounds great on low volume, so I'm happy.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 8:14 amthat's the cleanest super i've ever seenalvinstraight wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 1:44 amThings are coming in and going out at an unprecedented pace at the moment, but it is hard to resist when new cool stuff pops up all the time. Wow!
this is exactly in my wheelhouse.
Save for the vibrato bridge mod and neck/headstock alterations, I think it's perfect
(full disclosure: I own a green sparkle refin '73 thinline, and a red sparkle "touring clone" is halfway built)

Nice, and great playing! Hadn't checked out her solo stuff, but looks (and sounds) like an amazingly fun band to be in!øøøøøøø wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 6:04 pmI’m using it here

Re: NGD: 1972 Fender Thinline Project a.k.a. The Sparkle Survivor
Just got some photos from my luthier. Hadn't disassembled the guitar and checked before, so interesting to see what was there. Seems like a very early thinline II with a neck date of Nov 71. Original color Olympic White
Hopefully done soon!
