My first electric was a Japanese Charvel Refinement Strat. It sure looked different. Eventually I got tired of its flashiness and got a sunburst MIM Fender instead. This thread reminded me that its still sitting somewhere in the closet in my childhood home. Looks like this one but without pickup covers (and it's in semi-trashed condition): https://reverb.com/item/25471120-charve ... mber-brown

Bought this clear guard, but wont be using it .. The holes don't really line up and dont want to drill extra holes on the body...
Came to me broken too.. Packed with a thin plastic envelope, no padding.

My #1 Fender Strat. Has been refretted & Plekk'd, as well as having a bone nut installed. I installed a set of Fralin Vintage Hots (with a base plate under the bridge pup) years ago as well.

Actually... I love THIS Strat. My workhorse trough the mid 90’s. Wasn’t a fan of the color but it was the only Plus in the store. Fell in love with the golds after a reasonable adjustment period. And, yes, I’m an old timer so I gave it an “outie.” It used to be a thing; ya know.
Isn’t Sunburst a guarantee it’s NOT a refin?

The first guitar I had was a white Squier strat with a defective neck pickup. I've disliked strats ever since but dammit if I'm not GASing for Ira Kaplan's strat lately.
We are merely moving shadows.

Nothing they can't do, especially with modern pickup options available. Even Tony Iommi used a Strat, and it sounded just like Black Sabbath.
"He stopped using it when a pick-up went during the recording of the ‘Black Sabbath’ album. It was used on the track Wicked World. At that time you couldn’t buy pick-ups. Eventually he swapped it for a saxophone!"
I'm not even a Strat guy, and I have 5-7 of them, depending on how you count "bins full of parts"

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
I just rejoined the Strat club...
Sounds just like I remember from the last time I had one.
Plays easy, feels great, sounds nice, but ultimately uninspiring. Sorry, strat-bros. I likely won't be staying long.

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
Well, now that I'm 30 I'm old enough to be a strat guy .
So I got an unexpected NGD in a trade today :
Squier affinity strat, everything stock I believe, the pots need cleaning or upgrading, the pickups are average at best and it has that weird cardboardy feel that some squiers I've played in the past have, but... I think I get strats now. Those inbetween positions are really great for rhythm, Cory Wong was right.
I might have to do some reading on how strat vibratos work, I'd like to get it floating. It feels weird compared to my Jazzmaster trem, but I like the divebombs and flutters.
Anyway, I'm thinking of a red tort pickguard, Y/N ?

We are in the process of getting our house ready to sell, so here is my stripped down setup with my latest guitar, a parts strat build.

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
I think I finally want another Stratocaster. It has been years. Are the current Squier Classic Vibe models any good?
I like the blonde 50s model and the Sherwood or BMM 60s model.
Don't want to splurge and get a Fender, since I never end up keeping Strats. Last one I had was an American Special. Didn't even keep it six months. It was a great Strat though. Had the HSS layout.
I want all singles this time.
Then I can get my Faraquet/Medications Devin Ocampo tones on. He is a monster on the Stratocaster. Great tone and lots of wild chords and timings.
Nothing else has that ever so slight natural reverb (from the springs???)

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
i don't know about the current batch of classic vibes, but i had one of the chinese made ones from about 5 years ago and it was VERY good. I think the new ones are made in indonesia but i'm not sure. The one i had was pretty damn flawless. Pickups were great and a step up from the standard mexican fender strats. neck was killer. Only negative was a thin bridge/tremolo block.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 2:13 pmI think I finally want another Stratocaster. It has been years.
