Is this tort legit?
Hi all,
Very happy to announce I welcomed my first vintage guitar, a ‘66 Mustang, to the family today.
It does need a new pickguard, however, and I’m trying to get a vintage one to match the guitar. This one seems vintage - the seller says it’s from a 66-67 duo sonic. Do you think it’s legit?

Also please don’t buy it lol

The red looks weirdly magenta-ish, but red colors can be agonizingly difficult to get "just right" on a digital camera. The guard looks like the correct "sandwich" for that time: 3 ply, tort/white/black with the tort being really fresh ground meat-ish red.

Thanks all!
There’s also this guy on eBay, but the layering doesn’t look quite right:

That eBay one buries that it's an "old reissue" in the description.

I bought one of the more expensive Jazzmaster tort guard they sell, it's legit nitrate celluloid, I had to shave the neck pocket edge of the guard a bit and it smelled like the most delicious chemical mint I ever smelled. Almost like a hospital.

Yes that's a legit tort guard for that time frame. Nice looking at that.

Re: Is this tort legit?
Man, legit or not, that Mustang guard is hideous to me. I feel like I’ve seen a bunch of them like that from the period. Pretty weird that it’s so different from what you’d typically associate with what tort looks like because I’ve never seen it on any other Fender guitars
