Is the universe conspiring to force me to buy a Foxx Tone Machine?
So I've tried to order two different octave pedals this week and both times they were out of stock and purchase refunded. Am I just supposed to just get this over with already and go for the Tone Machine reboot?

I’m having a nearly identical experience except with phasers. #2 seems to be a Pedal Of Unknown Availability too.ElephantDNA wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 7:35 amSo I've tried to order two different octave pedals this week and both times they were out of stock and purchase refunded. I would not buy anything new Dano due to the Prop 8 support, but lots of good options out there. I’d probably get a Greer Super Hornet.

Maybe, I only looked at a Palisades for overdrives recently as an obvious choice to avoid any GAS or research listening to godawful demos. Then all the £130 used ones dried up, forced to investigate which overdrive i actually want and seems like a Hudson Broadcast now. Well, then the 24v limited was sold out, investigated further and 9v is better because you can use at 24v anyway, whereas the limited version can't change ETC ETC. and, well i think its what i wanted over anything else (arriving tomorrow)

I got the Warm Audio version of the Foxx and holy hell that pedal is a beast. Nice and cheap, comparatively.

I almost pulled the trigger on the warm audio one but I ended up going back to a source audio fuzz I've had for a while. Some of their models aren't great but the big muff and zvex mastodon ones are pretty decent and the octave seems to be getting the job done on the sections where I need it. At least until I GAS for something else!

Go buy a used French Toast off of Reverb, if you like it, go find a used 3699 Fuzz.

Then stay away from the FOXX clones, because the French Toast is the actual FOXX Tone Machine in a wee enclosure. Or are you kidding?

Kind of half-kidding I guess. I just think that those dano pedals look ridiculous. The difference between $40 and $140 isn't big enough for me to use that thing. It's all good. Everyone is in this to do something that interests them that they find gratifying in some way. Buying and or using something called a french toast or looks like a plastic souvenir is not just on my to-do list. To each their own, that kind of the whole point of music, right?Maggieo wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 1:48 pmThen stay away from the FOXX clones, because the French Toast is the actual FOXX Tone Machine in a wee enclosure. Yeah, I get it. I'm guilty of hearing with my eyes and not my ears. Like, that Tele has to be butterscotch or it's just wrong!ElephantDNA wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 3:16 pmKind of half-kidding I guess. I like the French Toast, I've got three of them, because:
1. They sound great
2. The enclosures are crap and can break.
3. Cheap as chips.

True, that's why I can't get on with the Soul Food (and honestly a lot of other EHX). There should be a market for replacement cases of popular ugly pedals.
I do have the MXR La Machine, and although it's a Foxx Tone Machine clone, it's dialled in a bit differently. It's quite undynamic and misses the craziness of what I hear in other versions like the 3699. It's super buzzy (even more than a Muff) and perhaps should be called the MXR Doom Machine. But I like it enough to not upgrade to something more vintage accurate.
Anyway, I've yet to see if Danelectro's supposedly transformation from flimsy "cheap plastic stuff" to overpriced "boutique faux relic'd retroware" works out for them.

There IS a market for this and people out there that do it. You just have to be willing to pay the $$$ and have a somewhat standard pedal that isn't impossible to rehouse. For example, I was able to rehouse a Klon KTR, but not a Nux Pedal.Nick and the Noise wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 11:27 pmTrue, that's why I can't get on with the Soul Food (and honestly a lot of other EHX). For whatever reason 25 years into this and my main goal seems to be to take expensive gearhead equipment and make it sound like I'm a teenager from the 60's or 70's. It's a very odd and specific pursuit, so I don't blame anyone who isn't on the same track!

Re: Is the universe conspiring to force me to buy a Foxx Tone Machine?
It's funny I ended up just going to that source audio and it's been fine. It's the OFD which might the ugliest pedal in history to be honest. Drummer is like what is that? Super weird looking but it's a distortion with a blend knob which it turns out ended up being what I need here. I've got it set with the Octavia model with some clean coming through and it's getting the job done. Guess it's the good thing about having a collection.
