the first one needs a refin and pickup covers.
i see original pickguard. single line klusons. etc.
the second one is more work for less benefit IMO

Wow. Sad that good money can only get you jags that are pretty badly beat- even though they are both really cool in their own way.
I guess I'm only a casual observer, and haven't been paying attention to vintage Jag prices of late. But damn- $2K+ for a played-to-hell refin seems steep.

Both of them look promising, but just a little overpriced. I wouldn't say they're priced totally out of reality given the market right now, but maybe 10-15% too much. They both need to be restored.
The first one would be my pick of the two, though it's hard to look past a seriously terrible refin. hopefully the finish is original on the back of the neck?

Divots on the fretboard, I didn't notice it till I looked at it super intently.Highnumbers wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 12:51 pmBoth of them look promising, but just a little overpriced. Good eye. Hard to see details in the small low-res CL photos.N0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 1:35 pmDivots on the fretboard, I didn't notice it till I looked at it super intently.Highnumbers wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 12:51 pmBoth of them look promising, but just a little overpriced. Somebody would have to weigh-out the cost of a proper restoration against what decent examples are selling for. These might still be an ok buy, but they will need more $ and time invested.

whoa my kinda guitars!!!
Compared to the prices here in the EU both of them are killer deals/steals
It's a hard choice, i wouldn't know which one to pick!
I might suspect the red one has an A neck? It looks so narrow.

Re: What say you about these two vintage Craigslist Jaguars?
The 63 is by the far the better deal IMO; the brass blocks alone (and presumably after market guard) are problems on the 66. The mint guard and the chance to turn it in to a proper 63 custom colour - choose wisely- would far outweigh the 66's desirability. Also there might be the original finish under that red. Possibly an original dakota red. I'd go for it.
A bargain, in UK terms.

The fretboard divots scare me too much on the 63, I don't even know how much that would be to fix.

Brass blocks are definitely a first. I'm surprised it wasn't a walnut stain, you could win late 70's bingo with that combo. Throw in a burnt orange shag strap and you're done.
I just don't know how the hell to evaluate prices anymore. I wouldn't have the stomach to pay that much for those guitars.

Whoa crazy, I didn't even notice the brass inlays on the '66. I figured they were just discolored original inlays.
It's kind of cool, but not at that price.

I'm in love with the second one, brass blocks, peeling finish and all.

I don't think those are bronze inlays at all on the second one. They just look yellowed.
As I prefer B&B Jags, I'd love to get that second one and get it all fixed up.

Re: What say you about these two vintage Craigslist Jaguars?
I thought the same thing.. Surely they're just yellowed to hell, right? It would be insanely expensive for little 'gain' to rip out blocks and replace with !@#$ing BRONZE right? But there are weird gaps in the blocks which make me think... Maybe?
