LOL Yep. The handle on the top of the speaker cabinet was making the head wobbly so I used those to make the feet a little taller.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 10:41 amare those grolsch bottle top stap buttons between the feet of the amp and the cabinet of the head?HNB wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 6:35 pmA custom 1x15" cabinet.

I think it's noble. I have a '72 SFTR that I actually really like, it's very punky and dirty sounding. Oh man is your '62 Bassman a 6g6B or 6g6A? I respect your idea of getting your birthyear amps! I have a silly dream of one day owning a collection of big 1962 Fender amps. So far I only have a Twin and a Showman, trying to get a Bassman, a Pro, a Bandmaster, and a Tremolux. I don't care about the smaller amps or the Vibrasonic, and besides won't get any of them now as I am making far less money. So wow, congrats on getting the King of the Collection! How do you like it compared to that Bassman? I am hoping a '62 Bassman is in my future.Surfysonic wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 10:30 amMy wife was also born in '72. I'd love to score a cool Competition Mustang to honor her birth year. She thinks I'm nuts.

Great! Looks like it’s had a lot of work done to it, but all by a very capable tech.

Glad to hear! I've shared the Showman gut shots with other experienced tech experts such as Billy Zoom on other forums (Gretsch Pages and Surf Guitar 101) and they concur with you. Always a relief to know I did alright!

I didn't know the Showmans had harmonic vibrato - I didn't think they built it into amps that big. That must sound insane through that '15.

It does! Sounds wonderful. I feel like I've got my old '60 Vibrasonic again re: harmonic vibrato. Only smaller and more powerful.
One thing I forgot to mention after having a play yesterday is how nice the volume taper is. Very smooth and gradual. A nice difference as compared to the '67 Showman I had a while back that when to uber loudness at around 2-3.

Re: NAD - '63 Fender Showman
It was pointed out to me that the death cap was still installed. Curious, I also checked my '64 Princeton and '62 Bassman. Both had death caps. Safely, I removed them. I'll have to tackle the Showman's death cap later tonight or tomorrow.
Update: Showman's death cap safely removed. Amp is now safe and AMAZING!

Does your Twin and Showman basically sound the same - or is your Showman a single speaker?DeathJag wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 1:54 pmI think it's noble. Re: NAD - '63 Fender Showman
Amp-wise I think so yes. But I think the differences in the speakers and cabs accounts for a much less “mighty” tone on the Twin. The Twin sounds full and awesome, but the Showman destroys. The Showman has a 4-ohm Triax OT from the factory so it’s pushing two 15” JBLs, and the Twin’s got two 12” Oxfords. I would try plugging them into each other but the Oxfords are soldered in. Also the Twin weighs about 100 pounds and is upstairs, while the Showman rig is downstairs. Once awhile back I ran the Twin out to 2x15s and that sounded really good. I want an open back 215 cab. Does anyone make that? The single 15” tone ring cabs sound great too, and compared to this Twin it would still be mightier.

I’ve played a 61 Twin with Jensen p12n speakers , it didn’t push as much volume as a tweed Bassman, but I’ve heard stories that the Showman is very loud.

It’s only on the bigger amps, actually. Brownface Deluxes and Princetons have bias-vary trem. I don’t remember whether the Vibrolux, Tremolux, and Vibroverb had harmonic vibrato or not. Pretty sure the Vibroverb didn’t…
