My first Bass VI!!!
This is just a preliminary pic, the color looks really blue inside. It's Seafoam Green, no nitro though, poly finish. I'll post more when I get'em but I gotta play it!! Many thanks to Alfred, USACustomGuitars and Michael Dolan!

Yeah, LaBella's. Board is nice and dark, I ordered that, I think. The color really changes with the light, inside the house and outside, and it's overcast today, so I will take some nice pics when the sun is shining. Very happy with it. Sounds are very wide, just by varying the pups and the amp's tone. The control plate is a little iffy. It's brushed aluminum, but very close to the chrome. It'll do for now, no way was I going to hold up the whole thing waiting to find the right piece.
More later... Dave

Re: My first Bass VI!!!
How are you going with getting a decent decal? I ordered one a year ago from Fender and I'm still waiting.

Re: My first Bass VI!!!
scottme, I am not even going to try with all of that. I know it's not a Fender, and that's ok with me. I almost had Dolan put his decal on there, and he asked me if I wanted it, but in the end went plain.
I am very surprised that the color changes so much, in different rooms even!!! It's a little darker than I expected, but I still like it. Sort of a chameleon.
Also, I measured the nut. 1. 75 inches. I thought that "real" ones were 1.5. I think I like the wider nut width, nothing is really too close together. Maybe I read that Alfred changed this when he sent his to USACG, but I could have imagined that. Alfred? And I'm not getting into the scale issue, so I have not measured that.
It sounds good, though. It's really easy to play, but the string spacing is tight. I already play bass with a pick, almost guitar-like, so it works. And my SVT makes some cool noises with it. I am playing with a bunch of pedals right now. Seems like it's just pouring new songs out at me, and I normally don't even write too much.
I hope the weather clears up today to take some proper pictures.

Re: My first Bass VI!!!
it was kinda Brian wanting the B-width at the nut...
he and i placed the first orders
we met in Area25
and were two of the few VI people around at the time
and both were talking about making SOMETHING VIish
as there weren't nearly as many alternatives back then...
so he knew i sent the '62 in to be copied...
it was more OUR dream than just my dream
(it's his gorgeous Ice Blue Metallic VI in the USA CG customer pics section)
he already had a '63 and wanted to try the wider spacing at the nut
sounded like a good idea to me
plus, i'm a complete amatuer and he has recorded some great music with his VI's
and i think Tommy kinda helped pitch the idea...
as we both had vintage VI's with A-widths, we weren't looking to make exact copies anyway
we wanted to make something that might be even better!
i'm not sure if you CAN order an A-width from USA CG
but i've heard that there WERE some vintage models that were B-width... if that makes ya feel any better
i like both A and B widths
originals also have a slightly slimmer back profile
THAT i do prefer...
gonna do some sanding on my next project
and yes, the scale is exactly 30"
like the '62
aside from the pickup routs, i believe the body is exact

Re: My first Bass VI!!!
ooh
i wish i had bought one of those cases...
i think it looks great
Eric should be back from his honeymoon tonight or tomorrow...
i'll start hounding him on AT LEAST getting some control plates made for us...
i still want to look into getting both bridges and plates made out of brass...
(original bridge is brass... at least the base is)
and then finding a place that can chrome plate them as inexpensively as possible

Re: My first Bass VI!!!
I bought one of these cases off of Ebay a while back too. It is a good fit for the Bass VI and the blond with black trim looks great. I think it is nicer than the case that comes with the Bass VI CS edition.bassVIst wrote: ooh
