Here is my old one.

I like E to E because having all that range feels like a whole orchestra when playing alone.
It obviously makes a good tic tac bass as well

I'd love to tune this E to E, but apparently there would be issues with the tuners and bridge holes, and I don't know how invested I am in changing those.øøøøøøø wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 10:11 amHere is my old one.

Anyways, new strap and strings came in today. This strap is definitely better, and slightly heavier strings have helped with tuning and for lack of a better term, "chunkiness."

E to E is not for everyone.
but you don’t have to change bridge or tuners, you just have to find a low E that will work.
It’s tricky to find the appropriate gauge but with a small ball end and a tapered free end that will fit through a Kluson post. I was able to build a custom set from singles, but I was fortunate enough to have help from a string company as an endorser when doing so.
My experience is based on the old 1950s bridges though. Is the new bridge different?

Actually I can see from the pics that the bridge is different on the new ones—six metal saddles instead of one piece of rosewood. That could indeed pose challenges, I suspect

Yeah, the actual hole for the string is pretty narrow, and a .90+ string definitely wouldn't fit through.øøøøøøø wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 11:23 amE to E is not for everyone.

I love E to E, I used to own a Hellcat VI and a Squier Bass VI and loved them.

Yeah, bummer. On the old one there’s no hole… just a notch. A .90 is still dicey and wants to pop out of the notch if you don’t seat it carefully.
Here’s a picture of mine and you can see the low E just barely hanging on

Re: NGD - Danelectro Baritone
Well, I decided to go for it and make it into an E - E Tic-Tac Bass, and it was surprisingly easy. I bought a Jeff Senn bridge, which had a big enough hole for the string (and allows for better intonation / break angle) and then bought a set of Stringjoy strings, 24-32-42-56-74-95. The aluminum nut didn't even need to be filed, all the strings fit in the slots perfectly, and there were no issues putting the strings on the tuners.
I reached out to Stringjoy before ordering and they told me to request a Bass VI taper on the strings, and it worked out great.
The guitar tuned up quickly, and was super easy to intonate. Sounds great too. I like it way better than the Squier Bass VI that I used to have. Highly recommended.
