Re: 2008 thin skin colors confirmed
I was thinkin' hmm great I wouldn't mind a Blonde (or second Shell Pink) Jazzmaster for live but the truth is that Fender are once again pissing about with colours when they should be sorting important things like pickups. My AVRI (before I got Novaks) sounded nothing like my 61', it's way off, brighter, less 3D and a bit shallow . Years ago I got noted UK pickup guy David White (he did brilliant scatterwound strat and godlike tele pickups called old glory and is sadly deceased) to make me some pickups for a MIJ I had at the time and the result was pretty much exactly like my 61' and he wound them without even owning or having any JM for reference and said he didn't want me to send him my JM pickups either. He later did the same trick on my ex girlfriends Jag. Now if he can just dive in and dream up a dead on accurate sounding pickup through witchcraft or whatever, surely Fender can take an old pickup and copy it.
And Fender...sort the tort!

Are you loathsome tonight?

All of those colors together on one page remind me of a southwest fiesta block partykle wrote: Just for the record:

No, it should come with all of them except the 59s.

I found that the frets took a little more getting used to than the radius did. I'm used to Gibson's 12" radius too so that may have something to do with my experience.spaceghost wrote:the more i think about LPB the more i want it, even despite the radius.

Very nice kle! Good thinking.

OK - noted.A good luthier can plane a fret-board while maintaining the same radius.

True, but I'm sure that over the years plenty of old JMs have been inflicted with some fairly average guitar teching.Marc wrote:OK - noted.A good luthier can plane a fret-board while maintaining the same radius.
For example, the '58 I got recently turned out to have some kind of reverse compound radius - 7.25" up the neck and 9" down near the nut .. cool, makes bar chords sit awkwardly in the hand and frets out on bends.
Anyway, the tech I go to made the whole thing 9" since making it all 7.25" would have taken off too much rosewood. I still like it but then I'm not that fussy about neck radius.
These thinskins sound really cool .. not sure if I can justify shelling out for one right now myself, but you never know, things might be different by the time they show up.

Re: 2008 thin skin colors confirmed
I'm extremely disappointed with the radius choice. I wish they'd just use AVRI necks and throw some "thin skin" paint on the damn headstocks.
As for the colors, I love that they're going with Lake Placid Blue, Shell Pink, Burgundy Mist, and Blonde. Those will look great. Fiesta Red and Aztec Gold?? As mentioned, Fiesta Red is a great color, but it's been done. And I don't see a huge demand for Aztec Gold on an offset. There are about 10 colors that would have made more sense, starting with Charcoal Frost or Sherwood Green.

Don't jump to conclusions just yet... There may be more to the story... I have a meeting Saturday morning regarding the 59 Jazzmasters.seasick croc wrote: I'm extremely disappointed with the radius choice.
BTW - Jaguar colors: LPB, Shell Pink, Fiesta Red, Aztec Gold, Burgundy Mist.
FWIW, as of right now this is all UNCONFIRMED/UNFINALIZED. File it under"probable... but anything could happen". The '59s are a go.
