Re: Blackface Bassman in a box?
They will, but I'm gonna pop them on a Pedaltrain Nano and sling that into a bag for transport. The aim is to have a Guitar, Pedalboard & Amp that I can hop on a train/bus with and, as long as there's a cab, play a gig - and not have to lug a massive old (and valuable) tube amp as part of it.fuzzjunkie wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 7:13 amAh, I was imagining both sitting on top of a speaker cabinet.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 8:38 pmI looked at those and they would be perfect but I'm trying to keep this pedalboard-size friendly, ideally to fit both on a nano.fuzzjunkie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 2:06 pmIf this was my set up I would be really tempted by the Orange Pedal Baby 100.
Guitar in an M80, Pedalboard in a Mono Tick, 'amp' in another small case (probably the Nano one if it fits) then off we go.

You probably know way more about this kind of stuff than I ever will, but according to CS Geetars, class D works best on 2-4 ohm speakers, which sounds a million miles away fromjohnnysomersett wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 10:02 amMeh, I'll find a solution, even if I just build a Class-D kit myself. As I say, I'm as far from an expert as it gets, but that guy certainly sounds like he knows what he's on about.

Only problem I can foresee is that venues rarely have cabs these days. So you might have to DI with a setup like that.
I guess with your in-ears, not gonna be an issue for you though

Thoman have the Harley Benton GPA-100, rated 100 W @ 8 ohms / 190 watts @ 4 ohms
I have zero experience with it though, and don't know whether the power ratings are realistic. But it's cheap enough to try and seems to have good reviews.

This guy makes a good point. I don't know much about class D, but I do understand the electrical logic applied here. Maybe I should rethink the amplification side of this. Pedal Baby 100 is still pretty small. Shame it only does 8 or 16 ohm (not the 4 my Bassman cabs are all wired to) but I guess those are the most likely I will see while out and about anyway.UlricvonCatalyst wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:00 amYou probably know way more about this kind of stuff than I ever will, but according to CS Geetars, class D works best on 2-4 ohm speakers, which sounds a million miles away fromjohnnysomersett wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 10:02 amMeh, I'll find a solution, even if I just build a Class-D kit myself. True, but I'm also organised enough to work out some kind of cabshare ahead of the date though. Or use someones FX-in on an amp if they agree to it.sal paradise wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:06 amOnly problem I can foresee is that venues rarely have cabs these days. It's on the list as a maybe if I can't find something else. Not really a fan of HB as a company so try not to support themLVC wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:06 amThoman have the Harley Benton GPA-100, rated 100 W @ 8 ohms / 190 watts @ 4 ohms

Quilter used to make some really good, little 200W Class D amps that had DI and 4/8 ohm speaker outs... but I don't think they make them anymore, so you'd be stuck having to find one on the second-hand market

A left field suggestion is the GSS Baby Sumo Not a pedal form factor, but pretty small.JackFawkes wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 12:42 pmQuilter used to make some really good, little 200W Class D amps that had DI and 4/8 ohm speaker outs... but I don't think they make them anymore, so you'd be stuck having to find one on the second-hand market
One potential drawback is it’s Speakon-only, which means bringing and keeping track of an adapter cable since nearly every guitar cabinet on earth is 1/4”.

No, still in production and what I'd be going for.JackFawkes wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 12:42 pmQuilter used to make some really good, little 200W Class D amps that had DI and 4/8 ohm speaker outs... but I don't think they make them anymore, so you'd be stuck having to find one on the second-hand market

I think they were referring to this, which isn’t one of the current offerings.andy_tchp wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 4:21 pmNo, still in production and what I'd be going for.JackFawkes wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 12:42 pmQuilter used to make some really good, little 200W Class D amps that had DI and 4/8 ohm speaker outs... but I don't think they make them anymore, so you'd be stuck having to find one on the second-hand market

They pop up used pretty regularly here in the US. Not sure about the UK.
I’ve been trying to get my bass player to buy one since he also plays baritone and guitar and wants a do-all amp with simple controls.

Yeah, the old Tone Blocks were the ones I was thinking of, but good to see they're still doing a version of them at least. Quilter makes some pretty great stuff.

Now I'm wondering how heavy an old H/H power amp is, and whether or not it'd be so much longer than your pedal board that you couldn't easily find a bag which would accommodate both.

Re: Blackface Bassman in a box?
It's worth noting that this is going to be a rarely-used scenario... maybe a few times a year. So spending $£$£ isn't really what I was hoping to do. A few hundred on the used market is where I'm at here. The Quilters look great, but are very very spendy.

Re: Blackface Bassman in a box?
Fair enough, but you’ve already gone all-out in the form of a custom pedal for the preamp piece.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 11:16 pmIt's worth noting that this is going to be a rarely-used scenario... maybe a few times a year. You might be able to house a pre-populated Class D board from Aliexpress or whatever like you mentioned earlier.
I’d just be wary of going too cheap on this.

To be honest, Tony is not particularly expensive for custom work. The pedal was less than $200!marqueemoon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 7:26 am
