It's entirely possible for a 1965 dots-and-binding neck to have Kluson tuners, for example, this Jazzmaster neck.

I believe so, there's been plenty of debate over that though. Some say Sherwood, some OTM, some LPB.

Funnily enough, two years ago I received an E-Mail from the guy that I bought it from, asking if he could buy it back... after six or seven years

Re: John Frusciante's Under the bridge 1966 Jaguar
Hey everyone, I am pulling out this topic because I have been torn lately on whether to buy a Japanese Fender Jaguar in Sherwood Green, with the idea of the guitar having the same color as John's in Under The Bridge when I play live.
I was hesitating because so many people have argued that the color is not Sherwood Green Metallic but Ocean Turquoise Metallic. Even though this post and the pictures convinced me that the actual color is SGM, I found a new piece of evidence in that favor today. From the music video itself.
I noticed that there is a difference between the color of the body (with the light spot on, and which I think is the part people focus on), and the color of the headstock, which stands out of the lights, and is often hidden by the video overlay of clouds on the side.
I was pretty sure that the blueish color comes from the light that John has on him, and SGM definitely looks blueish when photographed in daylight, but this is an ultimate piece of evidence to me because it is in the video itself.
You can see it in these screenshots. In the second picture i have pasted the headstock on the body to see the colors side by side.

I really want to avoid getting deep into the weeds on color theory here, but there's clearly a yellow-tinted spotlight on him, which you can tell by his pants, the yellow shine on his black shoes, and all the yellow fabric on the ground in the last shot. It looks more green because this yellow light. This seems pretty clearly Ocean Turquoise to me. I'm not sure what example you have of Sage Green Metallic looking like that. I also would rule out LPB, as they tend to age to a darker color around this era, and usually the headstock decal starts looking greener than the surrounding paint.vswann wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 9:50 amI was pretty sure that the blueish color comes from the light that John has on him, and SGM definitely looks blueish when photographed in daylight, but this is an ultimate piece of evidence to me because it is in the video itself.

Agreed with all of the above -- and might add that professional music videos are maybe the least-ultimate evidence of anything color-related. Aside from the aforementioned lighting considerations and white balancing, music videos usually have a lot of post-production color correction work, followed by whatever sort of color grading the director needs for the video to have the right look.alexpigment wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 12:22 pmI really want to avoid getting deep into the weeds on color theory here, but there's clearly a yellow-tinted spotlight on him, which you can tell by his pants, the yellow shine on his black shoes, and all the yellow fabric on the ground in the last shot. If I was putting money on it, I'd feel pretty good betting on OTM for that Jag.

Re: John Frusciante's Under the bridge 1966 Jaguar
It's Sherwood or LPB. It has been discussed I'm MANY places in here in the last 16+ years. There's also many articles out there online talking about it and they all say Sherwood.
This is my old un-yellowed 65 LPB Jag next my old very yellowed LPB 67 Coronado...

(I no longer own both, unfortunately)
Ocean Turquoise has a different tone to the blue/green, even when aged. Unfortunately, most digital camera images of either are not going to be accurate due to the fact the sensors can't actually accurately pick up blue/green shades due to the light waves and the way the sensors work. Almost always leaning towards a more blue tone in the result.
Having owned OTM, SWG and LPB guitars - and being in a fortunate position where I use colour and colour theory every day at work so my eyes are well trained now and I am pretty good at working out how colours are built -I'd say it was aged Sherwood.

My gut and untrained eye reckons it is LPB
Annoyingly, Fender Custom Shop's obsession with relics has cluttered the internet when trying to find vintage/aged examples but I've found a couple of examples of vintage, 60's LPB finishes that have aged wonderfully in to that greenish hue.

At the very least, can we all agree that his run of albums from 2004-2005 was amazing?
I wore the hell out of Shadows Collide With People back in the day, and I remember going to the record store like every month to buy the following releases. Curtains is one of the greats too.
