I know, right? It's amazing that I manage to hold down a job and spend so much time talking about guitars what with my residency at The Apollo to deal with

Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

All that bare wood and plastic and total lack of shielding there are reminding me why I traded my Ric on. There aren't even braided wires from the pickups.
Not to badmouth your guitar, my environment was very noisy, and traded the guitar for a nice, quiet Gibson L-00.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Have you ever accidentally started to tattoo a guitar you’ve been daydreaming about on someone before realizing that you were supposed to be etching a chain smoking bunny on their flesh instead?

Fuck, if I go to the UK I'm now getting a chain smoking bunny with a Ric tattoo.

Point of note:
Rickenbacker forums/FB groups are a weird place. The mere suggestion of modifying a 'precious' Ric gets them clutching pearls like a 50's housewife.
Unless you're modifying to early specs (ie: Beatles specs)...then they're all for it. What a bunch of dorks.

I was surprised by that as well, very sparse on the noise reduction. This is why I'm thinking about HB1's as I play a lot of noisy venues.

I haven't, but my mind does often drift onto guitars on particularly long and boring sessions like blacking out tribal tattoos (yes, some people still get that shit!)

I'm probably going to Edinburgh in the next year or so to go to a friend's wedding. Let's see if I can negotiate a few extra days to travel your country to head down to see you. My wife wanted to head to London anyways. Seems like it's a hike out to you, but I'll see if we could swing it...

We're actually not too bad from London. If you're using trains it's just one line out from central London Waterloo Station and takes about 45 minutes.

Haha, yep. And don't dare mention anything about poor build quality.

just for the fck of it, you should wire the neck pickup straight to the jack and see how it sounds. But yeah, mod away.

You seem like a man of culture. A Greco RG-850 is what you want.

The gray wire is shielded.
You can see the shield terminate at the pot casings
